| I have used many different methods to sharpen blades and I have become fairly efficient with sharpening tools and knives. I was very skeptical about using an electric sharpener, but the reviews on the Work Sharp brand are great. I decided to try one and I will have to say that I am impressed. I can't speak in technical terms about sharpening so this is not a review. These things are easy to use and leave a great edge on kitchen knives and pocket knives. I think sharpening a knife on a stone is an art, so if you have trouble, I think you will appreciate how fast and easy it is to use one of these. The Work Sharp Sharpeners use a belt, so I don't think you can ruin a blade if you follow the directions. Anyway, this is just an FYI. |

I have one, and I agree that they are a servicable method for those that struggle with other methods.
The belts come in various grits, and I'd caution to use the finer ones. The coarse can take a fair bit of material off in a hurry. I wouldn't use them on super high end knives, but for every day use they are fine. They also work on knives that haven't been treated all that well since you can take some material off to reestablish an edge. I mostly use a Lansky croc stick set for maintaining edges, but do have and use the Work Sharp. |

i looked REALLY hard at those but ended up with the spyderco sharpener. i felt a power tool was a. to easy to damage a blade for me and B. dependent on power and not really portable. on the up side it makes things like machetes and mower blades much easier. I use a bench vise and an angle grinder on mower blades. Makes the sparks fly! |

I have yet to read of anyone saying that the WS is GTG on tips. Like a SPYDERCO Military or PM2 tip... WS are good to go on tips...just don't drag the tip past centerline of the belt and it's not rounded off. Using the Ken Onion Edition with the wider stiffer belts makes this task even easier. |
| I have a Wicked Edge that I love. However, I don't love it for FFG blades. I bought a Ken Onion WorkSharp online last week and hoping it will be delivered tomorrow. I am hoping the Ken Onion WS will accommodate FFG blades much easier. Stuff like chef's knives, and other kitchen knives I'm hoping to take care of on the Ken Onion WorkSharp. |
| I have had my worksharp for about two weeks now. I can sharpen 5 knives to a shaving edge in the time it would take me to do 2 on a stone. I like to free hand sharpen and I am proficient at it but the WS makes it easier and much faster especially if you have a very dull or damaged blade, I still keep stones in all my bags to do field touch ups. |
