Anyone know of items that provide a early warning/camp security for out in the boonies.  At one time you could buy a trip wire device that was reusable using 12 ga. blanks, but can't find them anymore.  That still would be a good idea, but open to any new stuff I may not know about.  Or any ideas about security in general -- even for the subburbs.

I don't recall this being discussed recently but it might be worth a search to check.

I recall mention of the common fishing line and noise maker.  Aluminum can with pebbles in it or christmas bells or chimes or whatever you want to do.

I recall mention of the firecracker things where you have two strings to pull on and the firecracker in the middle goes pop.

Some folks got into electronics but I don't recall if we got into house security or not.  They make stuff you can put on a hotel doorknob and it will go off if someone simply tries the door know to see if it is locked or not.

You also have stuff that will go off if a beam is broken, big stuff would be for driveways but I think there are smaller versions out there.

As always your well trained dog would help take care of this, I currently have no pets so I can't go this route.  But I know full well it works great from being out and about with a few folks who bring their animals all the time.

Put bells in the wire. Watch they don't turn the claymores to your direction.

Not that i would ever try this, or suggest anyone else try either but you MAY be able to dill a 12ga shell sized hole into the baseplate of a mouse trap that just happened to have a crimp in the striker bar...just sayin....

two or three of these work well, they run on batteries.

careful not to place them in direct sunlight, or they will false alert....These suckers are sensitive and cannot be adjusted, however a bit of masking tape will effectively reduce the sensing area.

Want to wake the dead? setup a couple of pocket alarms on fishing line...this will cover a large opening. 130db will make you jump!

You can put a trip wire on one of those cheap electronic "personal rape alarms".

It says you can, so I can't see why it wouldn't work. But I've gotta be real careful with flares around here, so I personally don't play with them.

While 12 gauge gives you a lot of flexibility in choice of round, using .22 blanks like those used in dummy launchers or nail guns allows you to carry a lot more in the space a single 12 gauge shell takes up.

Once saw a Marine FAST team in Bahrain run out of a cafeteria all wound tight because a stray dog had set off one of their trip wire flares and caught a palm tree on fire...

The link that ASUsax posted above also has a version that uses .308 blanks instead - Looks pretty compact.

That's what I'm intersted in as it looks al ittle smaller.  I wonder if you could load with anything flammible to create a little flare?  Pretty interesting...

Lotto LIABILITY exposure in this thread.

Why would you want to positively alert your opponent or is this just another 'fantasy thread'?

I take a dog. You have to feed them and they crap all over, but they will keep you warm on cold nights.

They alert on everything.

Well in the fantasy world you can fill a 20 gauge hull with .22 blanks, your choice of power level, then shove the 20 gauge hull inside a 12 gauge hull and tape it up with electrical tape.  You can also take a 7 day pill dispenser and put 10 rds "per day" in it.

You can get real creative with a dummy launcher once you spend some time with one.  You can even use it to train your bird dog.  Your real dog, not one on farmertown or road rash 25 etc.....

I bought several white swan wood planters and placed them near corners of out buildings.  With minimum back ground lighting.  You can see people or animals step in front of them.  Low cost means of security.

Friends.

You really need at least one friend and the discipline to conduct 24/7 security operations.  A team of four is better.

Force multipliers like NVGs would help.
A routine like a "stand to" is helpful.  Around dawn and dusk you should have all your kit packed and be alert and ready to move at a moment's notice.

The problem with a lot of the devices mentioned here is that they are very loud.  They will alert you of incoming, but they will also alert the other party that you are there, to.  Far better to have a concealed campsite out of sight of the main path with a set of eyes watching the most likely approaches.  Then if the camp is "bumped" you can break contact, hopefully before being detected.
