I was doing some rearranging of the BOBs last night and thought long and hard if I wanted to leave the 4 way silcock key out......eh its heavy, it will save on weight, am I ever really going to use this thing....all thoughts going in my head, fast forward to about ten minutes ago.....did a publix run and right out in front is there water line.....I head over to the manager and tell him I have a very strange request, I would like to see if my key works....his reply no worries go right ahead and thank you for asking(hey its better than them thinking im rooting around trying to steal water lol so yes I asked)......well it worked, and quite well .....then I start thinking theres a Khols next door hmmmmm...... Tried at khols ...success!! but size was different........hit walgreens across the street(hey when I get an idea in my head I go with it) same thing....tool works great but again....was a different size.
So moral of my story.....keep your 4 way silcock keys.....It really hit me tonight how extremely important this tool is in an urban setting, out of three places tested tonight each had a different size head for outside water line.....the 4 way key is staying put. |

Quoted: Wish they had lighter weight keys find the most common size in your AO...then get some one to make a abs/poly one ![]() or just buy the single size one vs the 4 way..ill have to check next time at work but couldn't a socket fit it,,,we used to use smaller channel locks when we lost our key |

| Thats the thing......out of three places I hit.....and all literally within 100 yrds of each other......all had diifferent sizes, so the 4key version to me just makes sense.......im sure a leatherman can work in a pinch but will be a bitch......carrying sockets and a wrench around is just going to be as heavy if not more.......I like the idea of getting a lightweight one made if I knew someone around me...hell in FL that does it.....any ideas?? |
Wow......never knew that was called a silcock key until today. Used to use one every day when I worked maintenance job a long time ago, but we always just called it the "water key" Bet I have 10 of these things scattered around my house somewhere just from forgetting they were in my back pocket when I left work. Never got rid of them as I always figured they could come in handy some day.
