| Anybody know anything about the Invicta watch thats on sale at Woot today? Says list price is 1k but on sale for 90. Its mechanical. Good/bad deal? |

Quoted: I saw it this morning aswell. $1000 must be a rediculously inflated MSRP. First thing i always do is check ebay and it looks like $100 is about the regular going price for the same watch. I'll stick with my G-Shock. What he said. Invicta watches never sell at MSRP. It's a hundred dollar watch for $90. Check the size too, use your present watch to compare. Invictas run pretty big and thick. If that's what you like, fine, but it could be bigger than you expect. |
It's the next step up from a Timex, and it looks a bit classier I've wore one for about 5yrs now, and it does great. It's self winding, so I don't have to worry about batteries or anything.
I paid like $60ish for mine, which for my purpose is enough for a watch. |

They do come in different grades of quality, some being totally "Swiss Made". Comparing to Harbor Freight is a little harsh. That's a comparison i would make to a Timex.
As for mechanical watches, you wouldn't have to worry about an EMP that would fry your G Shock. |

My experience with Invicta has been underwhelming. I bought several different styles of their $1,000 watches several years ago for about $25-50 each and they have all had problems, from stopping by themselves, to losing varying amounts of time some days and keep perfect time others, and they have all had some cosmetic issues and band problems. Not to mention that they have a lot of "dive" watch descriptions that claim features, like screw down crowns, but the product delivered doesn't actually have the features advertised. They have an odd warranty also and they require you to pre-pay return shipping of $25 or $35 or something ridiculous like that. The worst part is that I gave a few of them away to family members for birthday/christmas presents and I hear about the problems all the time. I thought they would be a cool gift, but they were a disaster. I've since ordered a few tools and parts to service the batteries and repair clasps that have lost their pins too frequently.
As a fashion accessory though, they are decent. They garner compliments from those that don't know any better - presumably because many of their dive watches look like a knockoff of a rolex or other high end watch brands. YMMV, but if you google them or ask around at a nicer watch store, you should find out more than you want to know... |
