I thought I would share my General Purpose (GP) survival kit I made some time ago and recently upgraded with a custom pouch from Tactical Tailor. I took this on deployment with me and it held up fine. All descriptions are below the pictures.
The pouch is next to a dollar bill for size reference and is based on the Tactical Tailor 1H Pouch. I had the custom shop at Tactical Tailor add a expandable pouch on the front, grommets for drain and dummy cord, seam tape all interior seams and the velcro and snap cover flap. I added my own zipper pulls made out of some tubing from hom depot and 550 cord. The cover does not come open when you least expect it but its easy when you need to get to items.
The pocket on the front serves to hold a signal mirror and whistle for easy access.
This is an overview of the contents, some are obvious I will refrain from describing them. There is one bag containing small quart ziplocks and some clear trashbags as well as a roll of duct tape. The blue rectangle is a magnifier. Below are some close up shots of the bags inside.
This is small diameter latex tubing ordered from McMaster Carr and a roll of waxed dental floss. The bag is a pill bag from walmart I think.
The Leatherman Squirt, with accessory cord lanyard big enough to go over my head and a small strip of reflective tape.
My medical supplies, I only carried this small pouch of OTC generic meds and some lib balm. I have a small roll of duct tape in another small bag to serve as bandaids. I need to get some vivran to aid in staying awake for evasion.
This is the compass in the kit, it has a global needle.
Probably one of the most useful items in the kit for evasion is this pointy talky. Its made by Kwik Point
The biggest bag in the kit carries a sparky (flint and wheel) fire starter, a metal match fire starter, a coil of brass wire, small bag of various sewing needles and safety pins, a flexible finger saw with nylon webbing handles, some tinder and a small fishing/small animal catching kit. This kit is not meant to be the end all of my survival items but a base kit I travel with to meet weight requirements for my unit and provide me with a fall back stash of items. I do tailor my kit to the region in which I deploy and also carry other items such as IR strobe, IR and visible chem lights and various other gear. |

Thanks for the compliments.
I got water tabs, its the small packet next to the platy bag. I just picked up the filter today as a matter of fact. Its the newer one that is sealed inside the display bag so its water proof. Its to bulky to go in this kit but it will probably end up riding in a pocket or in a fanny pack. I like how you got yours packed, I tried the E&E and found it didnt jive with my style . The tape wrapped pencil is a good idea, I have wrapped electrical tape around my mini mag flashlight for some time. Aids in biting down on it and you can peel off a little at a time.
Where did you find the firestarter attached to the wood (the one with the 550 braid lanyard)? I saw those for sale along time ago at Camp Pendelton but can not find them anymore. I allways pack mission specific as much as possible and this little kit is like a fall back plan. We have such strict weight requirements when we deploy I cant pack everything I would like... even some of the issue gear has to stay behind because it takes up space and weight and we never use it (Example would be the FLC). So yes its a compromise but still maintains some multi purpose survival items. I recognize the TT E&E what is the other pouch? Is it a ATS small med pouch? I have a Specter Gear med pouch but its to big for a E&E kit but just the right size for my issued Individual Maritime Medical Assualt Kit (IMMAK) contents. If you cant get accessory cord for lanyards, braided (not twisted) nylon builders or masons line from HD or Lowes works great. Its attached to the sparky fire starter in the last pic of my OP. |

Crap, I'll have to look around for resources, but the one tool is fire steel, magnesium rod and the wood can be shaved for tinder if needed. The pouch is by ICE Tactical: http://www.icetactical.com/pouch-ifak-detach.html (can't get the hot-link to work right now?). Anyways, it's a quick detach medical pouch that works good for a PSK kit as well. Reasoning behind that pouch was it's designed to be attached via MOLLE to my IOTV, but could be "ripped" from the pouch if you had to jettison your IOTV. I still like the concept if you carry your PSK attached to your pack. ROCK6 |

I have a mini version of the Kwik Point in the back of my passport, as well as the bigger one in my carry on. Very handy to have. |
