Hello, I am new to all of this gun stuff..LOL
I just bought a Colt AR6720 stock and using it mostly for home defense. I wanted to get a good flashlight for it but need to know where to look. I have no idea where to start because I don't know where and how it would mount on the stock Colt AR6720 rifle? Please help, Thanks, Bruce |

Yours has the standard carbine handguards right? Does it have the side sling mount too?
I like the front sight base mounts like the Midwest industries one. http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=94 You can also bolt on a section of rail onto your handguards an then attach a light to that. http://www.gggaz.com/mil-std-1913-forearm-mounting-rail-for-tactical-flashlights.html |

Get this flashlight mount combo from Viking Tactics:
Surefire 6P and VTAC mount It's about halfway down the page. Good mount and an excellent flashlight. This light is incandescent which is not optimal but you can upgrade it later to an LED. You can get a section of rail for the handguards from here: Magpul rail section or here: Ergo polymer rail The rails will mount on the upper handguard using the bolts and nuts provided. They mount in the holes along the top. Put it as far forward as you can. |

It has the standard hand guard. I will look at the info you suggested. After spending a bunch of $$ on the gun, ammo, and EOTech 553 I am limited. I would like to get the upgraded hand guard that everyone seems to get but it seems at least $200-$300 for one is a little much right now. Am I able to install a 2 point sling with quick detach swivel rings on the stock hand guard? |

On the side of the gun or below the gun? |

The first link was for a mount that clamps between gap that is formed in the opening in the front sight base.
the second one and the other post are showing rail sections that attach to your handguard. Once attached your can use the light/mount that was linked in the thrid post or go with a standard 1" rifle scope ring and an 1" diameter flashlight (Surefire G2 led). |

Here are some photos I found on line. They show the light mounted with the polymer rail and the VTAC mount. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j467/msb2199/AR15/OlyLight1.jpg http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j467/msb2199/AR15/OlyLight2.jpg As you can see from the top photo, the rail is screwed onto the handguard through the vent holes. Just take the handguards off and attach the rail to the handguard. Reattach the handguard and then attach the mount to the rail. Edited for clarity. How many rails do I need to buy in order to get the whole top of the hand guard covered? |

Personally, I find it difficult to run a light directly from the handguard. The carbine handguard is around 7"add a 2 cell light body with a clicky switch and (depending on the size of your mitts) you a just about back on your upper receiver. Maybe it is because I have been running mid-length carbines for a while now I feel more comfortable running the light as far forward as I can (also cutting down on shadow from your rifle barrel) so I can get my hand farther out on the forearm. Again depending on your arm length and hand size, ans how you hold your rifle when you shoot, that may not be an issue for you.
Here is another option that I would recomend for a stock handguard: http://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/tmc-1-light-mount-n-slot/ OP- why would you be interested in a rail across the top entire top? |

I had forgotten about the IWC mount. It would get your light out a little bit farther and it would be easier to activate. Plus, you would only have to buy the mount. OP, you could buy a longer rail section but I'm not sure why you would want one. As Longhunter pointed out, you only have a 7" handguard. That doesn't leave a lot of room for mounting anything else on it (not sure what you would want to mount anyway). |

Well I guess i don't need the whole top of the hand guard with rails. i didn't know If I needed one to mouth a swivel sling. |
