I have been wanting to get the ESEE Junglas for a while now they appear to be a really well made survival type knife/machete and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them or any other suggestions on similar knife. They are lifetime guarantee  and made in usa which is a plus. Any input would be appreciated.

I dont own the Junglas yet, but i've recently become a huge fan of ESEE knives. They are top quality, especially for the money, and the no questions asked warranty is a huge plus.

Search ESEE Junglas on youtube and you'll find a lot of reviews and people putting it to work out in the wilderness. Youtube is what pretty much led me to purchase my ESEE 3 and 4.

Best prices i've seen on ESEE is at Knifeworks. Looks like the Junglas is currently out of stock there though.

EDIT: ebay is $150 shipped for the knife only, if you want to do something custom. Otherwise its $175 shipped with the kydex sheath.

You may want to also look at Becker's BK-9.  Personally, I like the Becker grip better than ESEE, especially after getting micarta scales.

The BK9 looks good I will have to check it out a little bit. What do you mean by micarta scales?

Micarta Scales are the grips, an upgrade to what comes standard.  The ESEE comes with micarta scales already but what I like about the Becker is the shape and how it feels in my hand.  And with micarta, it's better.  Problem is the upgrade is another 40-50 bucks.

I have the Junglas but honestly, it's too big to use practically.  My favorite all purpose knife is the ESEE 4 with replacement scales/grips which are bigger for my big hands.  For bigger tasks I like the Becker BK-7 which comes with a sheath that accommodates a altoid tin to add an "essentials kit"

HaHa I new the Junglas came with micarta I just couldn't figure out what you were getting at, sounded like it was something bad. lol

I've had heavy use with both of them.  Either one will hold up and give you good service, it comes down to which one feels better in your hand.  The ESEE stays strapped to my ATV while the Becker has found a home in my truck.  Being in the Southern woods of NC, I have very little use for a hatchet and these knives can take care of any chopping I need to do.  Buy either one and no one can say you made the wrong choice.

A few of what consider the top production chopper values:

Becker BK9
Browning Barker-Crowell Competition
ESSE Junglas
Buck Hoodlum

Can't really go wrong with any of those...

How would the Ontario Marine Raider compare to the Junglas or BK9?

I've heard good things about it.  I'm always leery of "stick-tangs", but I have a custom Leuku that I've beat on pretty hard with no issues; Ontario/Ka Bar do pretty good on their construction, so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I've had a Junglas for a long time, and it is a high quality knife that has taken a great edge! But I have to admit, that on the trail I really haven't used it as much as I thought I would. For chopping and bushwacking a Woodsmans Pal or a Cold Steel Kukri seems to work better for me because of leverage. and a small belt knife for camp chores. I judge any tool by how much I use it. I use my ESEE4, Leatherman Wave and my kneck knife constantly...

Decided on the Junglas and I think I will like it should have it wednesday. Now I will have to plan a hiking or camping trip to try it out. I live on some acreage and Im thinking it will even be handy to carry fixing fence and things like that. Cant wait to get it.

Got the Junglas today and it looks amazing. I dont know what you would not like about this knife its big but not to big, its built like a tank but still sleek and sexy, whats not to like. I think a person could do just about whatever he wanted with this knife from small chores to big ones with a little practice. Love it cant wait to get out and really use it.

And you became a team member between post 20 and 30.  Good job.  I waited forever, but I feel the $24 was well spent.

I use a Becker machete and the standard grip is very great for big work.  I do some surveying.  I like it better than any other machete I have used.  The GI machete is second.

I had a BK10 and BK7 and never liked the grip for smaller work.  I also have a Junglas and the grip seems to be a good compromise.

I would like to do a comparison of the Junglas and the original RTAK that I have which was made by Newt Livesay: Livesay Knives Page...it's about 3/4 of the way down.

This was the orignal collaboration with Jeff Randall before Ontario jacked it up.  I'm glad to see ESEE get this one up and running again.
