Do a google on the item Zeer Pot.
I think this would be a great thing to have around if the SHTF and you wanted to keep something cool, like milk.
Its simple to make and cheap also to make.

It probably would work best in dry climates. Any place in the US where evaporative cooling units are common I bet these would work well.

Yeah, probably wouldn't work to well in the swamp that is Florida.
