Has anyone dealt with fuel cans with liners that are peeling out?  Is there any fixes for that?  I'm guessing that you wouldn't want that peeling out lining in your gas tank.  I have 6 of those 2.5 gallon nato cans and all but 1 have lining problems.

Same here. I have 2 of the ones from Old grouch I'm looking to fix up.

I fixed up a 5 gal and a 2.5 gal jerry can with a pint of Red-Kote from O'Reilly's Auto Parts store.  It cost about 20-25 bucks, I think.

I may have skipped some steps, but what I did was:

1: put some clean, washed gravel (because I had it on hand) in the cans and put about 2 cups of gasoline in there with it.

2: Close lid and shake like hell

3: Pour out gravel/gas/loose liner slush.

4: Get a coathanger to scrape all the rest of the hanging liner material out as best I could.

5: Let air-dry thoroughly (a few days)

6: Pour Red-Kote in, swirl around to coat all sides.

7: Pour excess Red-Kote back into pint can it came in.

8: Turn jerry can every few hours to assure even thickness of drying.

9: ?????????

10: Profit!!

Bringing this thread back from the dead, but ...

Are these cans with the gray "food grade" lining?

Mine has an orange coating, same 2.5 gallon can from old grouch.

I know one was wrinkling around the spout so I am going to put it in the walk behind this week when I mow and take a good look at it once the gas evaporates out and see what I want to do.

I have the red kote stuff already bought for a previous project I never completed and have 4 of these cans so I plan to check them all out and redo them if needed.

Anything made for coating motorcycle fuel tanks will work probably.  Prep is the biggy here.

All my stuff has inline filters in it and I don't think the coating has really been coming out but if it is not up to the job I plan to replace it with something that is up to the job.

Even going to paint them on the outside, I let them ride around next to each other and they scuffed up a bit.
