Quoted: I hope the diesels are better than the gas generators. I worked on them when I was in the army and it was all you could do to keep them running for more than a couple of hours without having to fix something on them. Bummer. I'm researching what I can and the only comments so far are the noise level. |

I worked on them when I was in the army and it was all you could do to keep them running for more than a couple of hours without having to fix something on them. For several years, our ham radio club borrowed gas generators from the local National Guard depot, for use in powering our radios during Field Day. Some of 'em lasted the full 24 hour duration of the event, and some didn't. After that, we talked a dealer for Honda Power Equipment into providing a couple of loaners for the event (free publicity for him). The difference in reliability (not to mention quietness) was like night and day. |

I have 3, here's my take:
1. They are loud. The noise is high frequency, not exhaust, so another muffler won't help. Having said that, when it's running, the noise inside the house is no louder than a lawn mower. 2. They are built to run 24/7 at "full" load, stopping to change the oil every 125 hours. 3. Both the engine and generator head are under-rated. 4. They are rated at 3KW, 3.75KVA, with a surge of 6KW/7.5KVA These ratings apply no mater what voltage mode they are being used in. 5. Parts are hard to come by, but they use spin on filters, and the fuel & air filters can be replaced with after market parts if you can't find oem replacements. 6. The battery they are designed to use is a 4HN 24 volt which costs about $160 at batteries plus. You can rig a couple of small 12 volts in series, but you probably won't be able to get them into the acoustic enclosure. 7. It has an auxiliary fuel pump that refills the onboard tank from an outside source automatically when it gets down to a quarter tank. 8. It weighs 534lbs. It is built like a tank. I have to use an engine hoist to get them in & out of my truck bed. 9. All of the manuals are available as PDFs. They are much more detailed than a civilian set. 10. The voltage is adjustable from the control panel, the frequency is adjustable from the throttle. The output mode is selectable between 120V single phase, 120/240V single phase, 120V delta 3 phase, 120V/208V 3 phase wye. 11. Power is available from a 120v/15A convenience receptacle (all modes) and the full output from terminal lugs (insert wire, tighten nut) 12. I have load tested mine to 6KVA with a voltage drop of about a volt, and frequency drop of about 3 hertz from no load 13. Two of the three worked after adding oil & fuel, one had a fuel pump problem that took a couple of tries for this amateur to fix. Having said that, it is a bit of a crap shoot on condition. Let me know if you have any other questions. |

I have two 701'a and they work great. Mine have been upgraded to Yanmar engines. They are not super quite but are not bad with the ASK installed... I had to replace the bearing on one of the generator heads. They are simple and easy to work on. Andy.. |

Ok, I just found your set on the auction site.
It has a Yanmar engine. I'm wondering why there are paper towels covering the throttle solenoid.... A lot of fuel/oil leakage where the aux fuel access is. Could just be from changing the oil. Looks like they outfitted it with a valve and extension for changing the oil. Very low hrs on the meter and the screws are rusty. A good indicator that the hours are somewhat accurate. Odds are they replaced it with the engine upgrade. Looks as good as any I have seen. Andy.. |

Designed for extended run. |

Nobody has said it yet, and I'm not sure that this applied to this model, but lots of the gens on govliquidation run at 400hz. Just a heads up. Most do not. But there are some out there. I bought one on purpose that puts out 28 volts DC just to play with I've had good luck with GL just know what you are buying. |

I'm glad I bought my deuces when I did. They're going for at least double now. |

They're going for at least double now. 5 or 10 years from now people won't believe that we were able to guy stuff from GL at the prices we are today. Deuces, M1009s, trailers, diesel and gas gen sets, GP tents, medical chests and so much more for almost nothing compared to what the Gov paid. These are very good days indeed! |
what do those 6x6 M35's go for? theres a nice one in wisconsin.it would have to sell for more than $150. id pay hard cash for one of those with the low miles they claim, what the heck can the troops possibly be doing to beat those things? how does the auction work? im very interested.

Most around here go for $1,500 to $1,800. Auctions start at $150 mileage varies, but many of them are VERY low. I bought one with 12,000 on it. They have been replaced in service with a newer design, so they are all being sold off, along with parts. Go to steelsoldiers.com for more info. You will want to educate yourself on what you are interested in and the buying process before considering it. I don't always buy surplus, but when I do I prefer GL stay surplusy, my friends...... |
absolutely outfuckingstanding!!! im gonna follow your lead and look closer!
