Hey yall,

im looking for a good pair of boots to do a lot of work in this summer (cutting down trees/ clearing brush, working and fixing up my friends barn ect). I need a good pair that will last me for hopefully years to come. Im looking at these:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat603098-cat603098&id=0048157824074a&navCount=36&podId=0048157&parentId=cat603098&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat603098&hasJS=true

Does anyone have expirence with justin boots and would these be a good purchase? Or can you give recomendations on a different brand or pair.

Thanks, Rebel

I have a pair of Danner Pronghorn boots that are 9 years old, and I haven't taken care of them, they are just starting to tear apart.

BTW: I wear them every day,

Lots of good boots out there. Military and hiking though hiking will be more low key. Stick with the major brands and you'll be good. Look for sales. Sierra Trading Post always has some great prices on closeouts.

Thats better than I got. I put 2 years into a pair of Pronghorns before the heels started coming off. Ran the soles smooth too.

Keep forgetting to give Danner a call and seeing if they're worth repairing.

Nice lightweight and warm boots though. Love them.

Bellevilles. These are the flight boots, model 690 I think. They are very comfortable.

Yep, I believe Danner can fix them.

I've got a pair of Redwings that I use as work boots, I like them very much.  I don't know the model.  I wanted a pair of Danner boots but didn't want to spend the extra money.  I would buy them again.

I have the 790 steel toes. Great boots, have lasted me a couple years now for 24/7 wear. Couldn't be happier with them.

Never had a pair of their work boots but I've had their cowboy boots and trust their quality. There are a lot of choices out there for that price range though. Widen your search till you've got a real good idea of your options.

I have a pair of justin slip on steel toes. they are very comfortable, I have had them for 2 years, wearing them everyday in the oil fields and they are holding up well.
Keep the leather oiled every few months and they'll last forever. I wish they were lace ups though, I could use a bit more support if I was gonna go out through rough terrain.

Danner +1 I had a pair that I gave away after 16 years and 7 soles/heals because I was tired of looking at them!

I own six 7 pairs of work issued Danners, a variety of different models; needless to say I love them. But make sure you buy the ones that say, "Made in the USA" on Danners’ website, the quality of there lightweight tactical looking boots from china is not great. I am going to write a comprehensive review of all the Danners I own and post it on here as soon as I am done testing my newest pair, combat hikers. AZHONKY

To answer your question, yes Justin makes a fine boot.  They're very much like a Danner, heavy construction and long life, however with a long breakin period.

I personally have shied away from those concepts in boots over the years much as the military had.  Opting instead for more than one boot, boots being application specific, and no breakin period.  For summer, I like one that breathes like hell and since I'm more apt to wade above my boot height in summer, not water proof but fast drying.  Winter i go the opposite Gortex and waterproof often with insulation even.

I'm a Merrel fan and like them so much I gave my Danner's to my son.  There is a trade off on comfort and durability and Merrel offers a good mix of comfort to durability.  Way out in the boonies is a bad time to learn your boots aren't all the way broke in.  BTDT.

Danner can only repair boots with stitch-down construction.  Boots have stitching around the entire perimeter of the boot sole (opposed to the soles that are glued to the upper) can be repaired/resoled.

Sierra is a great resource.

I bought a pair of boots from them 4 years ago, they just went in the trash last week...should have bought 2 pair as they are no longer avail.

Bought a pair of Dunham from Campmor in 13 EE and they SUCK, I've worn them unlaced for 3 days and it's to the point I can't even drive with them.

Now my old favorites are in the landfill and I'm going to have to wear 8" boots for work til I sort this out.

I just threw out a pair of Danners.  Junk.

Go to White's Boots and get a pair of 10" Smoke Jumpers.  They are rebuildable and will last you 30 years if you take care of them.  They are built custom in the USA to your feet and you will finally feel what a perfect boot is.  Also, it will correct any posture issues you have and they are guaranteed to fit perfectly.  You will never have blisters again.  They can come with composite or steel toes and a variety of bottoms.  This is what forest fire fighters wear.

I spend most of my days in boots, and have worn and destroyed many pairs.  Buy a high quality boot and if at all possible those that stitch down (rather than glue) the sole onto the body of the boot.  I have had several boots fail due to the sole becoming unglued, occasionally at most inopportune times.  Alico, Merrell and Danner have such boots.

Not a good practice. You should lace them up nice and secure, but not overly tight. Your boots are literally flopping around. I bet you got many blisters etc. It is not the fault of the boot.

BTW: for you folks thinking about getting some USA-made stitch down Danners, you need to break them in. The molded-soled shoes don't need or need minimal break-in. The molded boots are also lighter than the stitch-down, but 0.5lb, since it is at the end of your foot, that translate into 1.0-1.25lb

No...they were that small and tight that even unlaced they were snug, maybe the shoe is missed marked or runs small and narrow.

Drove to Campmor and bought a pair of Hi Tec Haka lightweights for $55...UNBELIEVABLY comfortable from day one.

Good idea to try on a pair before buying. Everyone's feet are different. My Danner Mtn Light Hkiers fit me perfectly. Very comfy, albeit a bit on the heavier side versus the PRC-made Vasques GTs that I am currently wearing.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy a Danner that is China made.
Complete, 100% shit.

Thier other boots are of a decent quality, but not deserving of the nutswinging that they get here.

People always lean toward the "tacticool" end of the spectrum. Which is ok. Problem is, A tactical boot is NOT a work boot.
Redwing still makes a quality boot.

Also, for $100, you are going to be hard pressed to beat a pair of China made Dr Martens.
I own 3 Pair of Danners, 2 pair of Redwings, 1 pair of Matterhorns, and even 1 pair of Whites.
Dr Martens are every bit as comfortable as boots that cost up to 3x as much. While they wont last forever, and they are not rebuildable, they are DAMN comfortable, and hold up relatively well.

The Hi Tec boots have been great so far.
I'm doing a 3rd floor renovation, stair climbing all day long with tools as I remove the demolished materials.
I'm going to horde an extra pair or 3.

You might want to take a look at the WESCO Jobmaster. White's are good boots, so are WESCO.
