| A generator, anyone have any deals on one. it need to power the basics, fridge, water heater and maybe furnace I plan on using stings of led lights for lighting. I am not sure how big to look for but I go to hoe depot and lowes and menards once a week and they dont have any of the returned or open stuff. I even look on craigs list every time and again but people on there ask alot. |

Before I ever owned a generator I had a propane kitchen stove and a nice big 500 gallon propane tank that was simply for heating the house, the kitchen propane stove, a wall mounted ventless heater, and a dryer that used propane for its heat source. When the power was out a pot of water heated on the stove was quick and easy and while I started off with just using a small cup to dip out water and pour over my head I did some reading and moved up to a pump up garden sprayer eventually. These days I own some small generators and if I need hot water while the power is out I will once again resort to pots on the stove to heat a pot of water up. I am a single guy who is currently working a silly amount of overtime and for how little I am home I consider a hot water heater to be extremely wasteful. If someone lived at home or had a use for hot water several times a day I could somewhat understand a hot water heater being on all the time. Anyway, that is just one of your items that has alternatives out there that can be awfully cheap if you want to consider alternatives. |
