Hey everyone, I'm a long time lurker of the Survival section (lurked long before membership) and I saw this deal on Amazon for Solar Panels. It's still out of my budget right now but I figured someone might be able to benefit from it. I know very little about solar panels so hopefully it's good and ends up being a steal for someone.

About 4 dollars per peak watt is par these days. I would shy away from anything packaged or marketed in "KIT" form. by your numbers that means this "kit" is a deal. $4 per watt and 60w means in panels alone your at $240. this kit is $290 so that means your paying $50 for a charge controller, mounting frames, 200w inverter, and wiring kit. not a bad deal even according to you. BUT, you can find single 60w panels for less. for some reason im thinking $4 a w is a little on the high side. i think you can do better than that. but of course, not all solar panels are created equal and dont put out the same amperage. |

Not bad. I wonder if I can link it up with my 45 watt kit from Harbor Freight. I would just go get another one of the Harbor Freight kits for $159.99. (In fact, I did But, I suppose you could link this one up to your existing kit. I have one of those kits and love it. Do you think the included charge controller can handle all 6 panels or do you need to somehow rig them together? |

I checked the input and output with a multitester, voltages are correct and not fuses blown. I still don't really like the controller, I am going to upgrade to a solar batteryminder. I bought one on e-Bay, but it turned out to be the 15 watt controller, not the 180watt unit he advertised. (Lucky he gave me a refund). |
