Hi, my load out seems a bit heavy for me. I can haul it but my lower back feels like a weak area. I have heard former military guys complain about back pain. That's something I'd like to avoid. I have never worn one but would a weight lifting belt or anything else work?

A lot of, if not most, low back pain can be helped by strengthening the abs.  Crunches are your friend.

You need to lift weights.

Lift some of the weight from your pack and leave it at home.

It might also be the pack. What are you using?

Please don't try to use a weightlifter's belt or any other wild concoction like that, you'll give yourself a hernia.

* Lighten your pack
* Buy a better pack
* Work out, you don't have to join a gym or anything, just load your pack and hike around. 1/3 weight at first, then 1/2, then 3/4, you get the general idea.

Back pain usually is caused by a poorly fitting or improperly adjusted pack. Or it could just be a POS.

A decent pack will have enough quick adjustments to allow you to redistribute the weight between shoulder and hips in a matter of seconds, all while on the move.

My bag is a very large Timbuk2 messenger bag. There are only clothes in there now so it's light.

The heavy part are the 6 mags and water pouch on the plate carrier and the AK.

I guess I'll just walk around home with it on and adjust myself to the weight. I did that with the AK and in a couple of months, I got used to it there.

I just feel the strain on my lower back or hips and am thinking I could be setting myself for a long term injury.
