I have a few bucks in my pocket and I am thinking about buying this light.  I just wonder what people think about it it is a pricey light but I hope it is worth the money.  I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but it was about as close as I could get.  I am just looking for this as a general light to carry to use day to day and also have in a potential BOB.  I post the LL Bean link simply because there is a retail store near me so that is where I intend on buying it.

Yeah, for $150 you could get a better light for daily carry.
Fenix is good, lots of choices from them. Also O-light, Eagletac, 4sevens "quark" series of lights are especially nice, Nitecore. There is a few other brands out there too.

Check out 4sevens.com, fantastic dealer, good prices, great customer service.

Yes, Surefire are great lights, but generally lacking in brightness compared to most of the other quality light brands, especially when you consider the price.
On the other hand, if your made of money, the Surefires are very nice, and American made. There are also drop in bulb replacements available that can improve the light quite a bit.

why would he need a drop in for a light that is LED?

You can change out the LED and make them much brighter.

The E2L has been my EDC light for about a year now. It is small and very powerful, and being LED it barely sips on the batteries. I use mine all the time and I am only on my 2nd set of batteries. The tail cap on mine was broken when I got it (got a close out deal) but I used it as a screw-type switch until Surefire sent me a FREE replacement. I use it in the woods around our BOL and it lights up everything in site with a nice white light. Depending on your use, you might want to find a light with variable power or a low-high capability cause this is a bright light especially in a pitch-black situation. In an urban setting it does not seem as bright due to all the ambient light.

I am a big Surefire fan and feel they are worth every penny you pay for them. You can likely find this light for less money but I can't say that you can get a better light in that size and specifications from any other manufacturer.

according to surefires site there are no drop in heads for the E2L. plus why would you want to go from a LED light that runs 10hours off a set of batteries to a standard bulb that you will only get 2-3 hours out of? that makes no since to me. the site i looked up had the E2L running 100L(the site the OP posted has it listed as only 30L) but surefire has it listed as only 60. again, for much less money you can have a 210L fenix with 3 other light out put options.

There are heads for the E2 series I sport one on my E2D. Its a tactical night vision LED... It is MUCH brighter than the surefire "L" series. And dont let the 10 hours fool you... read the fine print... "up to" 10 hours of usable light. After 1.5-2 it starts dimming and dimming fast. I will admit Surefires are nice... and I own a few. But I recently jumped onthe Fenix and Jetbeam wagon... the M1X is my favorite light now, however you will never find me without the PD20 I have been carrying since the day I got it. GREAT utility light.

Old picture butit shows the E2D with a TNV LED head that still sports a nice bezel.. I have taken this light thru numerous international airports and only 1 guys said something... "Wow can I see that". the surefire spares carrier was not so lucky I have had my bag taken at security screening and me held by a TSA rep for a possible "grenade" and a revolver cylinder... ohh well they are just doing their jobs.

Sorry I guess I shoudl have made the link hot.  I only say this light and link LL Bean because I have a little bit of CASH for it.  If somone can suggest somewhere here in Pittsburgh I might get the Fenix over the counter or get those prices on the E2L and not have to worry about the wife receiving a package with a $100+ flashlight in it I am all ears.  There is an LL Bean here (we even lost our Sportsmens Warehouse) and it is convenient to me so that is the reason I am doing it this way.

So I guess the fifth one in from the left is the E2D ho does that compare to the E2L I see in the specs it says it is 60L but less runtime.  It also looks a good bit larger to me as well but if it is that much more powerful it might be worth it.

There would be no high performance pocket light industry if not for SureFire. Now, you can find some mighty fine Chinese knock offs, but in terms of reliability and customer service, SF is king.

No 3rd from the left, the 5th is a Fenix TA21... also a great choice. The TA21 is like a U2 on steroids. It lives in the backpack. Also a great choice.

The E2L is a nice light. I believe the newer (2 years old or less) ones have a dual output. Turn it on, it is on low. Off and back on, it is on high. If you leave it off for a while, it comes back on on low.

The E2DL is a bit brighter, I think, but comes on high first, and then low.

The Surefire lights often have a higher output than they are rated for, FWIW. Also, many of their LED lights use an optic, so the ratings aren't exactly similiar. As an example, I have an E1B that is rated at 80 lumens, and due to the light distribution, you can see a hair farther than the P3D I own that is rated at 130ish.

I am not bashing any of the manufacturers, I own several different lights. If you want to stay w/ Surefire, you might check out the E1B or the L1Cree as well. They also just came out with a new L2 that is a similiar size, but puts out MUCH more light, for a little more money.

I have SF, Fenix, O Lights, Chinese cheapos, modded Mags, etc, etc.

My favorite, most useful, most easily carried, BEST light output (I did not say brightest) is my SF L1CREE.  The runtime is incredible, high and low only not 87 modes you must toggle through to get what you want.

Press the button a little it's on low, press it a little harder it's on high.  Of course it has twist on as well.

SF lights are not cheap, but with enough use, they hold up and perform better than any other light on the market, period.
