I am really digging UniMogs! After seeing one  parked in a Cabelas parking lot in S.D. I have wanted one. Does anyone here have one? Is there much maintenance on the engines? Can these do 65-76mph for long periods on  expressways? Thanks...

there are a couple of sites out there that can give you the info your looking for. i had them saved but my PC crashed and i lost them. it will take some work to get it to run 65+MPH from what i remember. a google/bing search shuld get you most of the info.

Only if you can latch on to a semi with a tow strap & put it into neutral. Not geared for interstate speeds.

Are unimogs street legal or can be made street legal?

I really liked the newer models they made for a short time by Freighliner I think... They were mainly made for Municipal use Public Works and such...I wouldn't mind having an older one either..

this is one we restored for a customer last year.

65 sustained would be pushing it.  But I think you could cruise 55 pretty comfortably.
Edited to add.

Although I dont think I would run 55 to far with the loader on front, even though it did seem to carry it well.

I looked at both Unimogs and pinzgauers a couple of years ago, and went with the pinz. Parts were cheaper and the pinzs seemed to be more common

not to mention usually half to a 1/3rd of the price. M35A2s go for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a Pinz as well

I'd say he's likely going to want to go with the Pinzgauer instead of the UniMog...  They're better, IMHO.

Unimogs and Pinzgauers are different beasts, both have their uses. I used to import them, back when. Don't have one right now, but the parts piles are still around LOL.  Now it's just an M35A2....and various other trucks.

Rocky Mountain Moggers is a good site, check out the mog mailing list by Eddie, and Steel Soldiers has a section for them too.

Note that when you say "Unimog" you're referring to dozens of different models, so there's not one definite way to answer your questions. Engine maintenance? Easier on some, harder on others. Speed? Yes. And No.

While in Moab this last weekend courtesy of the girls manager... talk about a great place to work every year he takes all employees and spouses on vacations. She has been to Mexico, Moab, Cruises, etc.... but this year he treated us to a half day river raft, and a few hour tour on some hummers. While on that Hummer tour we kept bumping into a mog from mogtours. Their number is on the car in the last photo, give them a call... area code should be 435 or 801, sorry I do not know which. If they work it they break it and will really know what it can do. A few photos from last weekend the 2nd to last photo just above the large mog photo you can see the mog in the background on the ridge. This next year we are going to do a half day tour and then a sunset tour. The guides for the hummers really do not like the river rat guides and visa versa. It was a blast... total out of pocket.. Just under $100 for food and alcohol, company picked up everything else... Dave is a great guy, his employees are VERY lucky.

Unimogs are by far the most capable stock offroad vehicle.  Their axles are absolutely amazing.
