Can anyone suggest one I can build for myself?  Something similar to the Altoids kits (there must be 500 variants on the web for that).  I just need a little pocket kit to carry around with me in the woods, etc.

Gracias!

Just copy the SAS kit and save yourself some bucks, though it's cheap enough you might just want to buy one. Make sure you get a waterproof container.

If you can go back to about Feb 5, 2009, I posted a topic about the kit I put together.  I was going to see if I could find the post for you, but it looks like the topics only go back to about March 14.

Basically mine is a Tactical Tailor horizontal pouch with a space blanket, small first aid kit, whistle, small pocket knife, fire building kit, spool of dental floss, and an Inova flashlight.

I usually add or subtract depending on where / when I'm going somewhere, but the above list is pretty much standard.

Here is a good resource for some components I found Survival resources

Their aqua pouch is the heat for a pocket kit.  I'll try to get some pics up of one of my kits.

I really like the adeventure medical kits pocket survival pak for a pre made pocket kit.  Add some micropur tablets, and an aqua pouch and it's good to go.

Here is my personal survival kit:

I changed the pouch to an ICE detachable IFAK kit pocuh.  The AMK pocket pak can be removed and stuck in a pocket for a smaller kit.  Basically it's 2 kits in one.

The pouch can be removed from the molle belt, and worn on a standard belt, or stuck in a pocket.  As I said above the pocket pak can be taken out of the pouch for an even smaller stand alone kit so everything is pretty modular.  There is a pocket in the back of the pouch holding most of the stuff.  I'm still tweaking the first aid part of the kit, and I removed the power bar.

I got the pouch directly from ICE.
