I have plenty of high quality folding knives for work, but unfortunatly all of the sheath knives I have are crap that I have picked up here and there.

I think its time to get a good quality knife while they are still available.

Looking for an all around work horse:

Utility, fighting, yatta yatta yatta.
Prob like 5-7"
Decent quality steel
full tang
semi serrations
Must be reputable nae brand

preferablly around $50

Any thoughts?

I like Cold Steel and SOG, but am open to others as well

All that for under $50?  Sigh.

Personally, I do not like serrations on my knives, but to each their own.

The Cold Steel SRK and Recon Tanto aren't bad, but I think that the older Carbon V blades stood up to abuse more than the newer AUS-8 blades.  Also the $50.00 price might be tough.

The only SOG knife that is under $50 would be their Fusion (ChiCom) line dagger or bowie.  The 8Cr13MoV (like 440B, but with Nickel) blade ain't bad, but it is yet another ChiCom knife.

The Gerber Big Rock is full tang and is available with a combo blade, but it is 7Cr17 (like 440A, but with Nickel) and has a 4.5" blade, not 5".  It is also ChiCom made.

The Gerber Prodigy is made in the USA and can be found under $50, but it has a 4.8" blade and is made with 440A.

I think im between that and the CS SRK/Recon.

alot of the survival schools ask their students to buy frosts and eriksson knives. theyre carbon steel so they will take to a flint and spark. theyre cheap and sharpen easily. full tang, not the best for pryin but good knives. you can mind them at ragweedforge
