Anyone have the new edition? I know it is a combat knife but would you consider it for survival since it is double edged?

Not personally.  I'd use something like the Cold Steel Trailmaster and a Gerber Gator for survival.  The Trailmaster could be used for anything from splitting wood to digging.  The Gerber Gator for the finer work.

Just my opinion.

I had one of the originals and cried like a baby when I broke it.

If I had to make a list of do everything knives that and the Sykes Fairbarn would be top of the list.

You can cut with that knife, saw, and it throws like a dream.

Terrible grip for trying to use it for cutting, your hand will cramp up so bad and the edge will just drive you nuts(especially if you try to sharpen it).

Pretty much the most pointless evil looking knife ever.

The MKII was designed solely as a fighting knife - there are far better choices for your purposes.

Well no  wonder you broke it...

I have an original made in '72
I wish I didn't know what it was worth.  I'm scared to use it.

Back in the '80s I bought a Parker Brothers Cutlery copy for $30 and keep that one in the BOB.

I have an original as well, got it form my step dad who carried it, then I carried it for many ears too. With sentimental value I don't want to screw it up.

When I was in the USMC in the 1st Gulf War I carried a Gerber Mk2 upside down on my H-harness and a K-bar on my side on my web gear/ pistol belt (yeah, I was that guy in the platoon that loved knives and always had a bunch of 'em). As everyone has said above, the Gerber, while absolutley wicked looking, was pretty much worthless in average day to day use. The K-bar and a Craftsman lockblade pocket knife I had got 99 percent of the hard use, while the Gerber usually only came out when someone would ask to see it. It's a fighting knife, not much of a survival/ daily use knife.
