| Propper, TruSpec or other? Must be black. M is too small and L is too large... perhaps more cotton will shrink a bit? What material should I go for? Need for an academy class but will be used after that for shooting and things like that. Would like to find a pair I like so I can buy in better colors later if they hold up. Any help appreciated. |

Important! Get BDUs that are have the "ACU cut", they are much more comfortable that the regular BDUs. You can get the ACU cut in all colors, not just ACU. What makes them more comfortable? Also people keep saying get Propper... propper does not offer ACU styles BDUs in other colors. Oh, last question... Is there a BDU modified with a YKK zipper fly? |

The more tapered, more form fitting cut of the ACU is much less comfortable for me. I suggest the OP try the style of each and see what is preferred. |

It looks like Propper offers a zipper option. |

Ordered 2 khakis and 2 ODs Thanks Rust Please give us an AAR when you get them. I just got 2 sets in so I can give you a quick AAR on them They're not kidding when they say that the size listed is the size you get. I ordered 32's and being from generation Y I tend to wear my pants more on my hips then on my waist like you should . They fit perfectly on my hips, and leave more then enough room if i wear them on my waist to hold my CCW. Comfort wise they're extremely comfortable, the fabric brand new and unwashed is much softer then a set of ripstop BDU pants I have. the layout of the pockets is very good except for the front slit pockets...still have no idea what purpose they're for. I can't really get my hand in them and the velcro closure makes accessing them a bit of a PITA (nothing a seam ripper won't fix, though I doubt I will ever use them).
The normal slant pockets (don't know they're technical name but that sounds good enough) are roomy enough, about the size of BDU pockets, and a nice added touch of the lower 2inches of it being a double layer so your knife clip or flashlight clip won't wear a hole through them all that easily is a nice touch. The thigh pockets are quite roomy, although I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that the organizer in there will more than likely be completely useless to me. The organizer pockets run the full length of the pocket so if you put something in there that is shorter than the pocket and it slides past the top edge of the organizer that will be fun getting out. There are two D-rings in the thigh pockets for keys or whatever else you can immagine dummy cording in there. A nice touch but again I question their utility for my uses. I'm more of a "throw it in the pocket and fish it out later" kind of guy. The calf pockets are about the right size for glow sticks and are the perfect size for my hand to fit down in. I usually wear large gloves so as a size reference if yours are as big or smaller then mine you should also be able to fit your hand in there. They are held closed by velcro just like the thigh pockets. Other things worth mentioning, the rear pockets are button flap style, the fly is a non metallic zipper fly, there are two D rings hanging off of the front two belt loops (again for keys or dummy cords), and there are blousing strings at the cuffs just like on BDU's. The side adjustment for the waist is by far superior to that of the BDU's I have. For once they actually work like they're supposed to and hold the size of the waist constant. I always fought with my BDU pants to keep the waist sung but they would ultimately slip and no longer remain tight. Overall quality of the pants I would rate as VERY GOOD, the stitches look to be pretty good but only time will tell to see how well they stand up to abuse and use. More than likely I will begin replacing my BDU pants with these LAPG operator pants as my BDU's wear out or get relegated to "work" clothes. I'll be wearing them tomorrow and I can give you an updated AAR as to how well they hold up against the wind and cold |

I like BDU's better because those LA police gear pants do not look baggy enough, they look kinda tight. By the way speaking from my military experience Proper makes the best BDU's around. Good luck. I just tried mine on side by side...they're more or less the same in terms of baggyness word of warning though...they look completely rediculous when you tuck in your shirt because of the front slit pockets |

ACU style has the "gusseted crotch" which is more comfortable. Also the side pockets are slanted and have velcro, I can't stand buttons anymore. There are other improvements but these are the two I really like. I get less than 3months use of out a set of ACUs before the velcro is shot on the pockets I actually use. Where they put the pockets was a nice improvement- going to all velcro was a huge mistake IMHO. For occasional wear, it will suffice. But for daily use and hard field use, it does not hold up. |

I have to agree with the above poster. Velcro while nice certainly isn't very durable, the loop side only lasts for so long before it's all torn up or no longer fuzzy. Once the velcro on these pants bites the dust I'm replacing them with buttons. |

Had a whole platoon with ripped crotch ACUs after a few days at the range picking up brass. Bonus airflow during the summer months. |

PROPPER! Tru-spec is garbage! Propper is CRAP, I have multiple sets of propper with blown crotches, True Spec, I do not. I.E. Tru-Specs Honduran Stitch Bitches are better than Proppers Honduran Stitch Bitches. Tru Spec also has Zipper Fly available and I wish they all Buttoned, In TRU I have OD Green, DCU, and Multicam Most of my Woodland do not have makers markings and most have the "Disco" collar! In Propper I have OD Green and 1 Woodland I dispise Propper, I tend to have blown crotches with them. Not so with Tru-Spec, YMMV |

I'll be wearing them tomorrow and I can give you an updated AAR as to how well they hold up against the wind and cold any update? passed with flying colors....damn near windproof. I had a hard time telling if it was the wind i was feeling blowing through the fabric or the wind against the fabric. I'd say 90-95% windproof. Very comfy too in terms of warmth, not to hot not to cold. Granted I wear 60/40 twill BDU's year round so I'm used to the "heavy" ones...I also prefer how they feel over ripstop. The fabric compared to my twill BDU's is a bit rougher but not uncomfortable at all, I equate the roughness with bluejeans just a thinner material that doesn't bind/restrict movement as much as bluejeans |

Every other set has done exactly this. Like I said, the cut may be fine if you drive a desk, but they suck as a field uniform for this reason and uselessness of the velcro. |
