I am considering one for my GHB, but I am 6'4 280.  Would it be worth my money to get one?  Any help would be great.

If you know of a cheap place to get one please let me know

Thank you

better to build one for you needs. It will  cut down on weight by not carrying in need.

Look at what you might need extra. depending on age and Physical condition, you might pack a couple of ACE raps. If your subject to upset stomach then Malox, tums, or pepto tabs.

Do a risk assessment of possible situations, then plan to that.

I googled the bivvy from your description.  It looks to me like a casualty bag.  Something you would put an injured person in while you wait for help.

For my GHB.   I picked up a 4 season, 1-2 person tent at Sports Authority Sporting Goods.  It was the off brand tent they sell.  I don't recall the name.  I set it up once to see if it would kill me when I needed it. And found it to be at least Eureka quality. Roomy probably for someone your size.  A little tight for two people. But way better then a tube tent.

I had an Internet coupon plus, it was on sale.  It was $35-40 bucks if I recall.  I have seen the same deal at Dicks.

IMHO well worth it's weight.  And I have gone to sleep in a cold rain with nothing but a poncho.

Here's a review. Looks like it's 36x84". Of course you will always be better off with a conventional sleeping bag this is an Emergency Bivy. These are made for putting in your lighter travelling day/3day packs for unexpected situations where they would be better than nothing. I have read quite a few good reviews of both AMK Bivy's.

I have a tents, but are looking for just an emergeny shelter in the GHB.  I carry so much gear in my truck and want to be ablt to carry a cheap and light bivy, and not have to raid my GHB when camping comes.  I like my GHB not to be opened unless absolutely needed.  I have bought a lot of doubles to fill it.

Anyone use one?

I got one and tested it out during a 5 day range exercise back in October.  Not as warm as a sleeping bag, but once you climb in it starts to warm up.  I used it on top of my thermorest pad, so I had a little insulation.

I was impressed by it's size, quality and durability to buy another one for the wife's BOB.

Just got mine finally and haven't used it yet.  Two schools of thought on it.  My buddy who also bought one is using it in a bob and will add a a bedroll type setup.  I am using mine in my ghb/car bag as a liner for my 30 degree bag as it and the bivvy are more compact than the 0 degree bag currently in it.  The 0 degree will become my BOB bag.
