I have heard stories of MOLLE frames breaking. Sometimes this appears to be due to abuse, like dropping a fully loaded pack on a corner of the frame. Other times the users were not so explicit. Cold temperatures may also be a factor. I have the later MOLLE iteration, with no provision of attaching pack frame to waist belt. MOLLE II, I guess. At any rate, new-style frames are available, like this one:www.eagleindustries.com/prd_detail.asp?ProdID=140&CatID=26&SubCatID=1. I like the OD version. My questions are these: 1) Does frame breakage occur often enough and easily enough to be a legitimate concern? I would think the frame should be stout enough to take a little abuse at least, and one should not have to baby it. 2) Anyone have experience with improved MOLLE frames? 3)Is the one linked a good unit? 4)If not, where can they be bought? 5)Anyone got a better unit and/or price? Any advice would be helpful. TIA. |

The external MOLLE frame is heavy? Yes, you have a II if it doesn't hook to the LBV. The I was a dumb idea. Now the III uses a one-piece ruck, which has its good and bad points. I liked the ability to ditch the sleeping bag carrier in the summer as it made a good place to bungee the gun tripod. Look, the only ones I ever saw break were thrown off the backs of trucks or out of helicopters onto hard surfaces. I never saw one break just from weight. I think the thread this is a dupe of is still active....well, www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=18&t=607554 is about ALICE rucks, but then I used a Coleman Flex Frame for my MOLLE too just because I had one. I mean yeah, you could do it, but unless you're going to be out in the cold a lot, I heard the stock frames sometimes get brittle in prolonged near-zero temps and crack easier IF DROPPED, it woudn't be my first priority on fixing a MOLLE. The first thing you do to fix a MOLLE is invert the Fastex buckles so it pulls UP not DOWN to cinch, just like an ALICE. |
Thanks for the tip. Which buckles are to be inverted? |
Another request for the pic here, too! I'm pretty sure my email link is active |
Thanks, [email protected] should reach me. |
