Well after 16 years of nagging bugging and complaining to my parents about their lack of well anything, it was rare we would even have a box of band-aids in the house unless someone cut themselves, let alone a fire extinguisher. we have some preps. when I got a job ( I am only 17 ) I was able to start easing that “paranoia”. You know the one that nags at you “what if”. Well I used my first pay to buy a first aid kit, I wasn’t really happy with it when it arrived, just so empty so I have been adding to it slowly. I have reached the point where anything else to buy and add to it would probably only be stupid as I wont know how to use it. We finally got a fire extingisher...guess who paid for it, ME! but atlest I feel a bit safer I have set up 5 “Grab and go emergency pouches” Which consist of some pain relief tablets, a few plasters of various sizes for small cuts a glow stick for light at night and signaling for help. An emergency blanket and a large wound dressing. (15cmx10cmx5cm~) http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/6268/dscn1893wj8.jpg http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4663/dscn1894ed9.jpg http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/3797/dscn1895hh0.jpg I generally keep two of the “grab and go” pouches hooked up to my normal first aid kit as it is what I take when I go to the range and I don’t have any wound dressings in it that are able or designed to handle a GSW. Now since it was a loooooooooong time ago since I got my first aid training (comprehensive first aid with CPR) which was when I was about 10 (I think this is what started me on my preparedness mind state that and being trapped at school because of a flood) I am going next week to renew my first aid certificate which I have “conned” my parents into paying for saying that I desperately need it to pass the school year. Neither of them see the use in being prepared…despite the fact we live in a flood zone earthquake zone and a area that could have a very bad chemical spill. In my First Aid Kit (which I take just about everywhere, long drives, to the range, unknown areas of town) I have added a couple of things that you will never find in any pre made FAK, they are a Glucose injection and a Glucose blood meter. I added them because my farther and I both are type one diabetics. The only issue is that despite the simple to follow instructions with the injection I don’t feel confident administering it, so I plan to see if I can’t get a little bit of training at my first aid course on how to use it properly. http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/2290/dscn1906vo2.jpg Contents No. of items Glucagen 1mg Hypokit 1 Antibiotic cream 15g 1 soap wipes 3 sodium chloride wipes 4 alcohol prep wipe 10 saline 15ml 2 insulin/needle actrapid 3ml 1 protaphane 3ml 1 Pain relief 4 paracetamol 6 Emergency blankets 2 tweasers 1 emergency shears 1 waste bag 1 safety pins 10 Bandages triangle 2 Abdominal pad 5x9" 1 island dressing 6x10cm 2 semi permeable dressing 6x10cm 2 semi permeable dressing 6x7cm 2 island dressing 6x7cm 3 eye pad 1 adhesive strip 2 PBT bandage 7.5 cm x 450 2 conforming bandage 5cmx 450 2 Band aids knuckle plasters 2 finger tip 3 Blister 5 small 8 medium 3 large 15 extra large 14 tissuse pack 1 CPR sheild 1 surgical tape 1 strapping tape 1 Q tips 10 laytex gloves (pair) 2 glow sticks red 2 green 2 What do you guys think? I joined the US Navy when I was 17. I am now 43 and wish I would have started prepping when I was 17. I have only been serious about it for a couple of years now. Although, we had several personal SHTF times in my life that always left me feeling unprepared. I was a sheeple and didn't see the simplicity and common sense to being prepared to help myself. Congrats to you, and one day your parents may wake up from the slumber. You have a nice kit there, I hope to have a similar one put together soon. |

Thanks!he My dad just thinks im crazy, paranoid and all that. They are both in the "it will never happen to us" mind set. One thing I need to buy is torches and batteries we don't even have some cheap crappy ones, So they will be my next buy after my saiga and a case of ammo. |
