| Cleaned up the vehicles. Filled them up with gas. Made sure the preps in them were still in date, added water where needed. |

Already had a large pile cut and split but I spent the weekend hauling and stacking in preparation for colder weather. Attached File Might not look like much but with a well-insulated house and efficient woodstove it's enough for 1.5 winters. All harvested from our own property. |

| Filled 35 gallons of ethanol free fuel in my jugs and filled 2 propanes up. I top everything off before winter every year. It’s cold in mn and I’d like to stay warm or cook if the powers out for an extended amount of time. Also I got a fancy ten point crossbow for hunting and harvested a doe yesterday. |

Added a dot to my flux Sig 365 so now I have a useful pcc I can travel with. Dialed it in, practiced with my other carry pistols as well. Focused on quality and training over quantity of gear these days. Attached File |

Fall oil changes for both of my larger generators and fresh gas! A mouse had made a home under the engine shroud of one. Got it all cleaned up and back together. Almost ready for winter. More oil changes on more stuff tomorrow. I need to do some organization but that might wait until after hunting season...

Deer rifle season is over for my AO Sunday at dark. Long season with no success. Boring preps are pretty squared away for the cold season ahead. Building a garage in the spring, but until then I am working on my budget target rifle. Remington model 700 3006. I would prefer a short action but already had the 3006 in the safe collecting dust. Just looking to build a utility target rifle. Since my home range is 100 yards at best and much more than 200 yard open areas in my AO are rare it will retain its factory barrel and action. Not yet installed but on order is a Triggertech "duty" set a 3.5lb pull. Since most of my real-life rifle use is while hunting (currently a Howa superlite in 308.) I didn't want to go with a crazy light trigger that will get me out of practice for what I use for real purposes. Got a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9x40 on sale that will replace the Tasco that is pictured. Talley high rings also on order vs the older weaver direct mount rings pictured. Promag Archangel stock with 7 round mags is very stout and much better than I expected when I ordered it. Got it as an open box item significantly discounted. Had a "demo" sticker on it but looked new, not that it matters because I plan to use it. Last but not least is a leapers heavy duty bipod that will stay on the rifle. I used to hunt with 3006 so have ammo on hand for it. Switched back over to 308 around 2020 with a Reminton model 7 in 308, then this year upgraded to the Howa superlite as my new backcountry mountain rifle. I am setup to reload both with plenty of supplies but no longer hunting with 3006 so I am excited to have a reason to use some of my 3006 ammo stash. | Purchased a Retevis repeater for GMRS. It will be online in the spring. I'm also building a solar backup antenna for this system. I'm signed up on mygmrs.com for the repeater. I already have a GMRS number from the FCC. Comms are important, especially solar powered backup ones. |

Over the last week we've added a 40lb propane tank and Big Buddy Heater (Our regular Buddy went to the houseboat), 2 more gallons of water, and a Sam's club trip dropped another 2 weeks of food into the pantry. I believe we now have enough food and propane for several months. Water is a different story as we only have about 1 month's worth at this point. I'm planning on adding a water catchment system next year, any barrel you guys can recommend for this? I plan on adding a downspout and water catchment barrel that will sit on our back porch, primarily for watering our garden. I need one that can have the overflow run into a pipe down to my French drain so it's not just dumping on our porch. |

Get a wooden decorative one, then find something that will fit in it? You could always plumb up a blue barrel to fit your needs, then store it elsewhere. I might put that on my porch and then use a 55 gal blue drum lower to the ground where it's out of sight. That would store more and look better. The main use of the water will be to water the garden unless Alien Apocalypse starts.

| Yesterday, but I cleaned up and ran a kerosene heater my Dad left me. No idea the last time it was run, but it ran fine. Also started cleaning out a shed to evaluate if I can put chickens in there. It had been used for chickens before and some feeders and waterers were still in there. I'd have to move a lot of stuff to somewhere else though. |

Turn the main breaker off, then turn off whatever circuits you don't need to run and run the well that way. Contrary to popular belif you dont need a high end generator to get it done. I have an older Coleman 6k, and a newer Powermate 3K that both run my well pump. When I use the well on generator power, I do turn it on and off though, so I don't get a surprise surge when on generator. Once we are out of water pressure I will flip the breaker to the well, wait for it to reach full pressure, then switch it back off. Repeat that as necessary. | My GMRS repeater is online now. I installed a taller antenna on my garage and the repeater is in the garage. I also have a solar powered battery backup for the system if the power goes down. Approximately $1,000 invested but worth it in my opinion. |

I have long carried emergency items during day hikes, but knowing what to pack and what to leave is critical. Dave Canterbury’s Ten C’s of Survival and other training I've had has been a decent guide to updating my packing list. Items like Leatherman, EDC light, carry gun, plenty extra water bottles, have always been a given. In Texas carrying lots of water is never a mistake. This is a portion of the backpack kit, and not the final form. What is interesting is that it all fits in the 1 gal ziplock back and is not that heavy: Attached File Will probably swap the Cammenga for a Suunto MC-2, as the MC-2 is a lot lighter and has a magnifier, but that is for another day. |

Picked up locally a bunch of LCI military water cans, plus a pair of Scepter fuel cans. Should make a large increase in the stored water numbers. I have always wanted some of the LCI’s, but paying shipping kind of made it ridiculous when they would be on sale. Got the water cans rinsed out, sanitized, and filled in the basement now. Need to make some kind of storage rack for them. This weekend’s to do list includes filling up the new MFC’s and refilling a bunch of cans I had emptied thru fuel rotation. Probably should test run the generators also… But the main task today is prepping a new car- wife gets the new one, kid #2 gets the old one, her old car I will keep as a spare since it isn’t worth much but it is an AWD in decent repair. So I have to add new supplies and such for the added car, can’t just pull stuff from the old car. Doing stuff like getting a set of rims for snow tires, chains, jump starters, tools, flares, etc has kept me pretty busy the last few days… A dang- forgot that I need to defrost a freezer or two and look at what we have in there. Have an elk to deal with…. First world problems! |

| I organized and inventoried all my first aid and med kits this evening. My wife had a medical issue last year and we got a bunch of medical materials from the stuff she didn’t use. Mostly gauze and bandages, but I figure you can never have enough med supplies. I keep med in some of my rigs and kits and was able to add and replace lots of gauze. |

Bought a 20ft shipping container for secure storage. Not a direct prep per se but related. Will be able to keep the ATVs out of the weather and some other tool storage. Met with neighbors to discuss a potential security issue in the neighborhood. Rural but we still have neighbors. |

| Picked up a Holosun HS507K Compact Pistol Red Dot Sight with 3 MOA Green ACSS Vulcan Reticle end of September last year. The only Holosun I have without solar. Nice sight... but apparently it sucks down batteries... the battery it came with didn't last 6 months. Changed the dead battery today. |

I don't have any updated pictures but got the model 700 build mostly buttoned up. Ready for the range once the weather turns. Had fun with this build I decided to build a bolt action AR15 556 with a 20"-barrel same Vortex scope.  Also decided to get a nice optic for my RAR, a Leupold 1.5-4 with the pig plex reticle. Wanted to keep it light weight and streamlined. All said and done that wraps up my gun budget for the time being. Time to focus on other priorities. |

Saturday had a flat tire on my "utility" minivan. Showed my boys (7, 6, and 4) how to take a tire off, found the offending screw, and then practiced plugging it. A few months ago I bought a plug kit for each vehicle. It's been close to 15 years since I had used one though so I was glad for the practice. I need new tires for that van anyway Still holding air today

Not much, hit up the MH 50% off sale and added another box of Creamed Beef cans to the long term pantry. Usually this time of year the local breweries and wineries are selling off their unneeded storage tanks. I was hoping to score another 100-250 gal poly tank or even better a SS tank but so far none have come up for sale. |

I think I did OK for $50 for three... Insides look good. Bottoms have a touch of surface rust, gauging by the way they look probably stored outside. After I get them cleaned up, I will hit the bottoms with a wire brush and some fresh paint. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

It’s one thing to have an extra set of tools, another to have tools for the kids when they get older, yet another to have tools in every vehicle, but boxes of random wrenches are probably beyond useful. The same with tactical gear and molle pouches. |
