According to this video, always put your weaker rechargable lithium battery near the end cap...
Or on the bottom... If not, on the bottom anyhow.  my review on the GTL LR123A batteries |

Never fucking ever mix lithium rechargeable batteries of dissimilar voltage unless you are looking for a fire/explosion/out-gassing event.

Or use a proper 18650 / 16650 battery instead of running rechargeable CR123s in series.
