Never fucking ever mix lithium rechargeable batteries of dissimilar voltage unless you are looking for a fire/explosion/out-gassing event.

Or use a proper 18650 / 16650 battery instead of running rechargeable CR123s in series.

Never mix dissimilar batteries, especially lithium primaries, in anything.

Reverse charging:  How does it work?

Anything used in series, should be well matched.

Now, a 4D Maglite, you might be able to get away with it.
