I'm looking for a book on orchards.  My wife has planted 20+ trees. She has them so there is always a pollinator, but it seems like each year we loose most of the fruit to various bugs and fungi.

She has got several types of apples, several types of pears, figs, and peaches.  We live in the far western parts of Kentucky.

How and why did you pick the particular variants you have now? Where'd they come from?

Pretty much anything that would grow in this region she bought.  The trees were to produce items you'd find in Wal-Mart and Kroger.  So, although Asian pears aren't native to this area, we bought some from Kroger and liked them, hence they got planted.

The items overwhelmingly came from Stark Brothers.

If anyone has a book that helped them with apples or pears or other fruits, please thrown the title out there so I can review them.
