I currently have a dedomed Convoy C8 that puts out the amount of light I am looking for. I like how it mounts in the Fenix holder I have on my bike handlebars. The problem is that about four or five times during my 20 mile trip to and from work I hit a bump that resets it to the lowest setting. My wife's M1 does the same thing with similar frequency, so my guess is that I just need to find a comparable light that is less susceptible to bumps in the road.
What comparably priced options are there out there that have similar output and a similarly sized tube for the holder? At the price point I am at is my best bet to just reset the light regularly and avoid bumps in the road? The convoys are working great for all of my other purposes, and are reasonably ok for bike duty. On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a more durable light if it fit my parameters better. |

I've got the Convoy C8 in my cart over at Mountain Electronics! I've got 5 Convoy lights: S2, S2+, S2+ custom triple XP-L HI, M1 and M2, so I know the lights and their flaky switches (the one minor nit about the Convoy marque, IMO.) Have you tried cinching down the retaining ring in the tail cap? My M1, M2 and S2 are kind of finicky and the switch can actually loosen up with longer cells when untwisting the tailcap. Something like a 5" long pair of pointy tweezers can work. Just an idea. The Convoy lights have springs at both ends, so one would think shock absorption would be no problem. Another idea would be to use longer cells--say protected cells, but I'm just throwing things out. Any one of the big flashlight manufacturers will make a single 18650 type light, so it's just a matter of getting a budget in order and going from there. Fenix, Nitecore, EagleTac, Klarus, Jetbeam...to name but a few. Maybe look at this one if you like the C8 pattern. Richard likes them better than the Convoy C8, although there's not a lot of stock left on hand. http://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=80&product_id=309 Good luck. Chris |

If you have a fenix holder what's wrong with fenix About $40, give or take. Since I will probably put one on my wife's bike as well, closer to $80. I've messed with a friend's pd35 and have no issues with the actual light. The jury is still out on the holder as well. So far it stays in place on the handlebars, but after this prior year's worth of use it looks like that could change over time. The snugged down rubber tends to move how the holder connects with the bike over time. |

The protected panasonics I am using seem like they are getting to the upper end of what the tube will hold.
