Every 2-3 years we seem to replace a lot of tarps we use outside for misc things... we've gotten the heavy duty tarps from amazon, costco, and other places none really hold up to the sun after a couple years, and at $30+ each they're pricey for how long they last.

Anyone have a favorite tarp?

I consider them disposable, have had the same kind of luck you do.

I keep a few new ones around in the original package (I can fold tents wonderfully, but I CANNOT find a good way to fold huge tarps), and basically throw them once they go to shit.

Look for used billboards online. Cheap and tough.

I buy them at Harbor Freight, throw them out when they fail.  I always have spares in the shed.  They are cheap insurance for gear

I usually keep a box full of cheap spares in my shed.  I have tried both the cheapest, heavy duty, medium duty, etc...  I found the heavy duty more expensive poly tarps are not worth the extra coin.  I keep some of the cheapest ones, and a few medium duty ones on hand for a variety of uses.  Sometimes I order them online but usually I just grab a few when at Walmart or Home Depot.

The one tarp that I have had for 8+ years is a heavy canvas one that I use to cover my wood splitter.  Its still intact and not showing any signs of coming apart yet.  Of course a nice quality canvas tarp that is heavy enough to stay on its own without being tied down is about 10X the cost of a poly tarp.

Once they start to disintegrate or to many corners rip out I just throw them away.

I have some real cheap ones (German surplus tarps that are more like a tough drop cloth), some cheap ones, a decent one, and a couple badass tarps.

The badass tarps are really, really tough.

They're not cheap.  I got them from Tarps Direct via Amazon.

Why are you using tarps 24/7/365? And enough of them that the replacement cost is getting prohibitive?

Sounds like perhaps you should research other shelter options for your outdoor stuff?

don't wad them up and throw them over something...mice will chew them up. Store inside.
