Do you any of you freeze any water as part of your preps?

Yes, it should help keep the food frozen longer by having it in there, so that alone seems worth the effort.

I measure out water for mountain house freeze dried food then freeze the water and vacuum seal it.  Easy way to have pre-measured water ready to go in the car.

Most people with a deep freeze know that using water to fill the empty spaces will let things be more efficient usually, runs less, and if the power goes out the ice in the deep freeze will help keep things cold for a bit.

That is the extent I use it.

as Biere commented... I keep a couple of gallon jugs frozen in my small freezer... they are for the 7 day coolers for what few perishable cold cuts I have on hand...I have stored water in Scepter and Aquatainers...

One of the fictional stories about a major event wrote about using 2 liter soda pop bottles.  They would fill them all the way to the top and freeze them.  Allegedly as the ice freezes it creates pressure within the bottle which makes it harder and will last longer.

I tried their theory on about 25 bottles so far and tend to believe it to some extent.  Over the last couple of years I have frozen the bottles filled to the top in my refrigerator/freezer in my shop.  It is not set especially cold, instead at about the same temps we run in the house.  Of the 25 bottles, I have had two break the sides AFTER OR AS they were frozen.  NO water leakage in the freezer.

We had a refrigerator failure in the house and my shop refrigerator was full, so everything went into a big cooler.  This cooler is about 6' long and has large wheels on it.  It is not super efficient but good enough for my needs.  I used several of the 2 liter bottles in it to keep everything cold with great results.  They lasted well over a week while I waited on parts for the refrigerator to come in.

Now as a caveat, I did use brand name soda pop bottles.  Coke and Diet Coke.  I have noticed that some of the off brand cheap soda pops seem to have paper thin bottles.

We keep all of our freezers stuffed with 2 liter bottles now.  When we need the space they come out and sit somewhere till we can put them back in and the cycling doesn't seem to hurt them.

I know this is long but one more thing.  I think pure water would freeze harder and last longer, but I haven't tried it yet.  Ours is all well water.

I keep 4 one gallon jugs of water frozen in my freezer for Hurricane use.  In freezer or large 5 day cooler they will keep frozen meat editable for 5-10 days of power outage and give you an extra 4 gal of drinking water after it melts..  It's a good idea regardless of what bad stuff happens.

My SO freezes water in those big nut jars that come from the box stores...

Keeps them frozen in the solar powered freezer in the barn and then transfers them to the ice chest in the shipping container to keep stuff there cool.

There isn't enough solar power or space to use electric refrigeration in the container.

Also during the winter the big 120 gallon tanks that are on top of the 'highly insulated' room in the barn freeze by about February. The tanks are the whitish HDPE ones like at the farm stores.

After they thaw in the Spring, there is a lot of calcium deposits in the bottom that precipitate out, that would normally be consumed and would give me kidney stones. The water is utility water we haul up the mountain.

Oh yes,  Freezer No. 2 has two liter bottle frozen to take up space and be used in coolers when the power goes and well when I need block ice.

Yes, have a chest freezer and keep about a dozen 16 oz water bottles frozen in it if there is room.  Here is a fun trick.  Put a water bottle in there and don't touch it. Come back in about 4 hours (Depends on your freezer I guess) and you will see the water is still in liquid form, but as soon as you pick up the bottle and disturb the water it will instantly solidify.
