| Need some help from the mathematically inclined, and or electricians. I want to be able to recharge my 12v batteries using my two portable 20w panels, 40w total (advertised I know, more like 28-30w average when daisy chained together). What charge controller, small,. light and field friendly has anyone used? Recommend? I appreciate any help/thoughts given. |

Generally, rule of thumb and all that: The conversion of watts into amps is: amps = watts/volts So if you have 40 watts, at 12 V, get a charge controller which can handle > 4 amps. There usually is a some restriction imposed by the batteries as to have quickly they can be charged (at least for some), so that may end up setting the amps by which the batteries can be charged. I am sure more knowledgeable folks will be along to correct any dumb stuff I may have posted. |
