| Any of you guys ever attend prep shows (convention)? There is one outside of Atlanta at the end of the month and wondered if anyone has ever been to these. If so, what should I expect? |

Im going to go to the show. We don't get them as often around here. Lots of Gun shows but not prepper shows. I'm curious what this one will be like. The last one was only about 40 booths and most were selling similar items or they were offering services of some sort to "get ready".
The high point of the last show was meeting the 'Lights Out' Author. |

Hopefully these shows won't have folks selling of 3 wolf shirts....or anything of that variety. |

Wife and I attended a prepper convention in Spartanburg SC about 3 years ago. There was an EMT, a couple of engineers and a handful of vendors. Got a lot of really good information about wells, power generation, shelters and first aid. There were about 200-300 like minded individuals to network with, and that was worth the price of admission by itself.
If you can find one that isn't totally commercialized, it's worth it.....there's all kinds of ways to skin a cat, and I learned easier ways to accomplish lots of stuff that I was over-thinking. |
| We went to a local show a year ago at the fairgrounds. No admission charge with mostly local vendors and some from out of the area that do traveling shows. First impression=BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. The overall quality of the vendors didn't seem to be present plus the place was over run with the FSA type. Sure there was a lot of give away "trinkets" and some free food and that's what the FSA was there for. It seems to me that the larger shows in the more populated areas that do charge admission have a better vendor representation with items that are more suited towards the true survivalist mentality. YMMV |

YMMV Yea, there is a smaller show here in September that is closer to home, but it seems like it will be like you described. The show that I linked seems to be well organized (at least on the link), so I am hoping that it will be worth the drive and admission. Just wanted to dip my toes into the world I enjoy with other like minded folks. Thanks for sharing your experience with these type shows! |

Hmm, haven't seen that one before, but they have Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy so it can't be all bad. I'll check the schedule and if we're free, we'll probably go. |

I agree about the bold. If we could go and meet some folks like us, it would be well worth the admission. I'm cautious about providing too much detail, but it would be great to walk away with some names and email addresses/numbers so you could set up a dinner or lunch somewhere one day. Maybe a picnic so the kids could play while the adults feel each other out. |

But given the subject, it can definitely go south quickly. Thanks for your input guys! |

Been to several up in the NE, but none since I moved back to the US. My impressions:
- easy to meet folks you have something in common with - easy to meet people you had something in common with then found out they were recruiting for the militia or other group, or were a bit too tin-hatty - lots of guys selling a few band-aids in a bag for $50 and $39 fire starters...ugh - intermittent good ideas, good products, useful resources in the form of companies/websites/etc.. - crowded as hell Never give a name, address, phone number or anything....thanks but no thanks. |
