Can anyone decipher the date codes on a case of MRE's?
Have a chance to pickup a couple of cases cheap, just don't know the Julian date.
These have 3120 listed as packing.
Thanks

Quarterback55 is correct,
Those are pretty old, I don't know if they could be cheap enough for me to buy them.

Also check the TTI (Time-Temperature-Indicator)
.mil MREs have used them since about 1997. Little orange square label with 2 circles.
Inner circle should be lighter than the outer circle.
Which I doubt is the case at this point.

So, if they were packed in2003, what is the expiration on them?
It looks like it's dated 4-16.
Their web site says that they are still good for another 36 months after they expire.
The heat sticker is good.

Then the packed date is 120th day of 2013, not 2003.
The inspection date is the packed date +36 months, which would be 04/2016.

The .mil calculates MRE's are good for 5yrs (60months) from the packed date.

I have eaten 10y/o MRE's without problems, but it depends on how they are stored.
Mine were kept in a cool, dry place (closet) most of those 10yrs.
MRE's will actually look and taste bad before eating them will harm you.

It appears as if mreinfo.com is no longer around, they were a good source of information.

So, these are "good" till about 2018?

Well, depending on your definition of "good"
yes, at least 2018 with proper storage.

As for expiring?
I know that that term is relative, but as for when the Mil gets rid of them.

In 2000  I had an MRE at Dugway proving grounds.   it had M & M's  peanuts from the 1984 Olympics   promotion.  tasted fresh........ 16 years old

I dunno what else to say....
The .mil inspects them at 36 months and decides what to do.

Check the Defense Logistics Agency for more info.

Wish I could help more.

Under the 'Operational Rations' sub-menu there are inspection guidelines.

Ok guys, you've been a big help.
The price on the cases is $9.99 each.
I'm going to buy all 10 cases.

Well, the price is certainly suspicious....

9.99 per case of 12 meals?

Yes, un-opened

Not a fan AT ALL of MRES as a food storage item, but at that price, I'd buy all of them too. :)

They're a good niche to have a case or two around when cooking is impractical
