I wonder how many of us paint things like axes so they will have higher visibility when we are working. I was looking at my options on a few axes this week. All three were red factory new. I know paint doesn’t always last forever but it kind of made sense to have my very, very sharp axes be as visible as possible for safety.

I have several older axes and hatchets that will retain their patina but these three just seemed good candidates for frequent use and a nice bright red paint job.

The bigger single bit is a boy's axe.  Not sure of the makers but the hatchet and boy's axe look almost identical.

I just finished up thinning and sharpening the cruiser double bit in the picture. Scary! The darkness on the edges is from the vinegar bath to remove rust. Most of the edges are shiny now.

Paid truck hitches blaze orange. Your knees will thank you. (especially when they are on the back of a camper)

Had a buddy stick his hand into his "hunting bag" one night to grab something....Unfortunately for him his razor sharp Dozier Elk Hunter had somehow come out of it's sheath.....Cut him to the bone before he even knew what had happened.....Lightning trip to the ER and about 9 stitches later he was right as rain....But a good lesson- Your own sharp stuff can hurt you.

I nicked my left hand pinkie sharpening the double bit in the picture above. Just the slightest catch on the blade as I was working the bevels. Nothing a bandaid wouldn't fix but it's no joke.

I repainted my axe a few weeks ago, fire engine red.

Might leave more width of blade unpainted, as paint can make the tool get stuck in the cut.
