You're at home, the power has been out for 9 days in your area due to a massive wind storm. There is allegedly relief forces in the area, but the damaged area is so large you haven't seen any yet. Most of the structures in your immediate area are still standing, including your house, however areas within a 1 hour walk are devastated. The power is out, the water is out, and there is no natural gas available from the utility line. You and your family are uninjured, however you have a injured elderly female neighbor with you.
A knock on the door puts you looking at a 14 year old overweight girl, and a 7-8 year old boy. You have never seen them before. They are asking for water and food or anything you can spare. The boy looks like he has recently been crying. At the end of the driveway is a military aged male you have also never seen before, who appears unarmed. A few houses up is a parked van with at least two people in it, both appear to be adult males. Everybody looks calm but they all seem to have their heads on a swivel, except for the girl and the boy. What is your reaction? |
|
9 DAYS is not long enough for them to starve. Hushedly tell them that the entire neighborhood is under surveillance and there's a sniper pulling a bead on them. whisper to them to return to the van and tell the men to call out their intentions from the road and someone will be along shortly to help them.
Then back out, get out of sight and call your armed neighborhood rapid reaction force on your eneloop charged gmrs walkie talkie or shoot up a bottle rocket as signal for a mag dump. |

Ya'll not have tornadoes and wind storms in Arizona? ![]() How did you respond? I typically open the door, while armed. When I do I make sure somebody in the room has a rifle. That is what I did in this case. After seeing the totality of the situation I politely but firmly told them I had nothing to spare, and for them to move along. Typically after a big storm we get folks out bumming for anything they can get. Normally it starts with asking for food or water, then it progresses to cash, and a lot of the time they want to come in and warm up or use the bathroom. At that point your fucked. Best to nip in it the bud from the get go. |

Ham radio or just am/fm radio should be able to tell you where to send the van. Puppies doing their job should mean no one gets close to the place without lots of barking. Knocks on doors are a thing of the past. I keep cutting my picture out of the dictionary but it keeps showing up under paranoid. Not sure why it is there, and I keep wondering where they get all those pics. While I am on a busy 2 lane highway everyone calls or texts before just dropping by. 150 lbs or so of puppies apparently makes an impression. Love the pups. |

Wind storm? Throw em some stuff and point them to the shelter. Not really a tough one. Heck, around North Texas if there is an impacting tornado they have to setup road blocks to keep the spontaneous volunteers OUT of the affected area and get them organized first. People come out of the woodwork wanting to offer help and assistance. There is also a certain element that tries to ride that wave to get into areas to take advantage of the situation. I volunteer for a couple disaster relief groups and from 1st hand experience there is plenty of food & water to go around. More than enough most times. Last tornado in Cleburne TX there were people with home cooked food driving around offering it to anybody who needed something, there was a couple who bought a pickup bed full of bottle water and were driving around offering it to any who needed some, one guy went to a pizza shop and bought the most amount of boxed pizza I have ever seen and was driving around giving pizzas away from the bed of his truck to everybody. At the end of the day we (the relief volunteers) were informed that a local BBQ place had setup a mobile rig in a Krogers parking lot and was feeding free diner to all people in the impacted area as well as all the relief workers. On top of that there were numerous 'shelters' set up in churches and schools. The Red Cross was driving around doing their thing of course. If anybody went without it was because they locked themselves in a closet and refused to come out. |

Do not make go out in a snow storm wearing snow shoes to grill up a steak (wait did that the other night) to shut you guys up. Actually, Dragynn, that sounds good. Especially, since my makeing French Toast was a dig on all the "milk, egg, and bread snow storm only preppers" out there. Hey, OP, would it have been wrong to show up at the door with my plate of "over-syruped" French Toast and told her, "Nope, all out of food."? Kind of think she would return to the van, "Dad, why did that man say, "fucking finally" as he closed the door?" |

We need to take half your syrup and give it to those who don't have any. He needs to pay his fair share after all. He didn't make that syrup. Etc... |

So a few days into a natural disaster and we're already identifying people as "military aged males"? Silly. Did the storm rain insurgents or something?
Anyone who doesn't help a 7 and 14 year old after a natural disaster needs to get their heads checked. "Relief forces", LOL. |

Some people just have to keep looking for "the line" and since they can't find it themselves in their fantasies, they need others to to tell them where it is. 14 days with no power (hurricane) ..worse case was my neighbor begging for hot coffee ...which ..I gladly filled his Thermos each day..after that..he'd watch the place like a hawk from his place....and I never asked for that. Its fun to wargame things ....get the grey matter twitching. But id ask why someone could just walk up to your door to start with. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

The "what do I do with raider scout" is my favorite around here...has been a while.
Localized issue lasting a week? Business as usual, take care of friendlies and subsistence to unknowns, perhaps visible holster Regional issue lasting months? Lock it down tighter and maintain security National grid down, etc? Instant security, consolidate neighbors, guard duty, armed deterrent The Day movie? Shoot on sight lol. |

I am wondering where you were in Kentucky that did not already have access to disaster relief in that time period during one of the fairly recent big storms. Even if there is enough damage to keep work crews swamped locals will start clearing roads themselves so they can resupply if needed.
The blizzard of 94 was the worst right in my area but there were no wondering raiders or starving refugees. |

This sounds like fun!###!!!!
Oh here's what I'd do. I would invite both the children inside, At gunpoint. Then tell the young man outside that I had the children hostage. I'd also tell him to signal the van to come over but not to alert them or the children's safety would be at stake. Thennnnn I would have the armed member of my family flank for control. (Is that as good as blading?) I tie up all potential raiders and drive them all an hour away to the Indian casinos and leave them there. I drive back with a new van. |
