what do you guys think of my basic kit?
in it i have Basic first aid gear 2 fishing hooks with about 100 feet of line whistle Mylar blanket 6 sq ft of aluminum foil 100ft of nylon rope water purification tabs kindling and lighters in a watertight bag some friction tape and 2 cotton bandanas now i am no survival expert but that seems to be a decent kit as i look at it and i feel i could make good use of all those items to create a shelter and a fire as well as gathering food http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p594/PDXGraham/ADCF410E-6C90-4CB6-A145-27FDD2EBD113_zps1xrjzoxl.jpg |

That looks pretty good. I would assume you would have a knife on your person and a small flashlight; if not, I would consider adding a small SAK and Photon-sized LED light. The only consideration would be a folding water container; something like the Aqua Pouch can be folded flat and with some 550 cord, could be carried like a canteen when full (also, it's graduated for easy purification measurements): Aqua Pouch.
I actually prefer the Micropur tablets both for taste and the ability to pack flatter than bottled iodine tablets; just my preference. The biggest challenge is to keep it small enough so you actually keep in on your body instead of being too bulky and tossed in your pack...it becomes just excess weight at that point. ROCK6 |
