Scenario: My mother is aging, and tending a large traditional garden is getting out of her capability. She also tries to garden at swamp level, bless her heart. We live on a hill, and are capable of raising a large garden, and our garden cannot flood. Our problem is that since we just had another child, the Mrs has a hard time with the preservation. Our little one requires a LOT of her time, and we already weren't able to get to a fair amount of green beans before they went rubbery. Another 3/4 grocery bag we gave away because she couldn't freeze it all. I was talking to my mother (about coming out and helping) and the Mrs came up with the idea that she comes and helps with the preservation and in return she gets veggies. My mother jumped all over that!! That expanded to she will raise the seedlings (she has large south facing windows, we have none) and help with preservation in return for getting all the veggies she needs. We are already working on laying hens, and she will be buying eggs from us and milk when we get the dairy cow in a year or two. We will probably be raising meat birds next year, so we will raise some extra for her in return for helping with processing the birds.

We then thought of my brother who is renting a property set up for horses, but the barn is empty less one horse there (8 horse barn). We need to figure out the details, but he will be raising beef cattle for all of us. I will put the money up front, he provides the labor, and my mother basically just writes a check. There will be no "profit" involved, just sharing the expenses. We will all sit down and decide how we will divide the meat before we start. With a family of 4 (and sounds like she wants more ) we need mainly roast and burger. Low "value" meat. We want some steaks, but we don't need a lot of them. More of a special occasion thing for the grill.

Anyway, thought I would mention that by each of us doing what we are already setup for and/or most easily capable of doing, we will provide food for a few families for very little money. In these days of the planned destruction of our way of life, anywhere you can setup agreements like this will help tremendously.
