I have danners 453 gtx and I like them I have had them for years but they hurt my feet. I am looking at these and I am planning a trip to Ireland so I want to have something very comfortable. I have been watching reviews on youtube about them and they seem prett good. does anyone have them and can review them?

We are going the last 2 weeks of Sept. I read its in the 50's and 60's, so I am looking for clothes to get. I have a lot of jeans and t-shirts and sneakers. We will be outside a lot so I am trying to find 3-4 pairs of pants and a few shirts, I bought a collared shirt from sports authority, so its a start, and I am looking at the  Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots and the Asolo Fugitive GTX Hiking Boots. I am thinking buy once cry once, and I wil have gear for SHTF if needed.  Because jeans are so uncomfortable

If you're having issues with boots hurting your feet now, I suggest you really find a place that stocks them where you can try them on and walk around in them a bit.

I drove to the closest REI intending to buy a pair of Lowa. As soon as I put them on I knew I couldn't wear them. Ended up with a pair of Vasque instead.

I've ditched boots all together.  After walking for endless miles in Afghanistan, a good hiking "shoe" beats boots out every day of the week.  The Merrell Chameleon's are comfy.  This after wearing Asolo's, Oakley, and a few other non-issue boots.

I just bought Merrell Moab mids and they are 1000 times more comfortable than the danners 453 gtx. the good thing is the moab is waterproof. I tried on a bunch of different boots and these were the best. The beter part is they were under 100 bucks I got them at rei and they had a 20% off going on.

A good hiking/trail shoe is what you will want. Boots are overkill and tennis shoes aren't enough.

These got me through all my recent trips, all over Ireland and Scotland.

Another vote for Merrell. I just bought another pair of Merrell Moab mids for $50 on clearance at Sports Chalet.

this.  I also have the Gore-tex version of the Moab Mid and love them.  Looking to replace them soon as they are finally wearing out.

Before all the Danner Hit the Breakroom deals 1 year + ago, I paid full price for a pair Danner 452 GTX Hikers. UNCOMFORTABLE!!!
The top of the shoe is so rigid it painfully digs into my ankles and shins. I've been tempted to take a sledge hammer to the tops to break them down. The soles look like they should be comfortable but aren't.

Most comfortable of the Breakroom deals were the Air Force Sage Green DFA hikers and boots similar to this:
http://www.danner.com/boots/dfa-8-black-gtx.html

The hikers, I wore for a year, and gave to my roommate in Iraq. I'm still wearing a pair of green DFA GTX boots.

I would say no unless you plan on climbing Ben Nevis. For walking around cities, towns, castle grounds, established trails and general exploring, the Merrell's are hard to beat.

I wore Vasque when I went to Ireland one March. It was like my feet were born for them. Even atop Glendalough at -35C, I was sure-footed and comfy.

If it's cool to mild cold I wear ASOLO's (my feet run hot)

If it's warm to hot I wear the lightest hiking boots I can find, I like Vasque.

Just bought a pair of Keen and a pair of Oboz from REI.

The Keen's feel like your wearying socks they are great no break in needed.

The Oboz feel like boots but they feel better, lighter then most hiking boots do.

I've been wearing Wolverines, but they are not exactly what I'd call comfortable. I'm looking at getting some new mid's.
I've heard a lot of the Merrel's. Guess it's time to give them a whirl. I'm looking at getting something I can wear on a daily basis that's not "tactical" but still gives pretty decent support. Any recommendations as to what model?

I guess if you're not around water, mud, dirt, sticks, debris, a low shoe would work well, but I need something with a little rise to keep that stuff out of my shoes.

I wear the shoe type hikers, just bought some Oboz Traverse Low and they are looking /feeling really good and Solomon XA PRO 3D Ultra 2GTX•USA and this is my 3rd pair of these and I absolutely love this model of Solomon shoe, water proof etc but this high end model is 4X better than the other Solomon's and is all I buy. I have tried on almost every model of Murrell and they feel hard and stiff and just plain uncomfortable to me. My .02

I'm really liking the Danner shoes I got from the recent sale.  Unfortunately I think they were on sale because they were discontinued.

I have both the fugitive, and based on looks, the Merrels in the pic.  The a solos are good for back packing both on and off trail.  I would not want to wear those Merrels with a heavy pack.  I do wear them daily, and on day hikes with a lit pack.  For what it sounds like you will be doing, get a low cut hiking shoe like the Merrels.

Those are nice boots you are looking at but IMHO very similar to Danners.  They'll have a bit of a breakin and be stiffer than say Merrels.

I'll try to explain this.

Boots have pretty much followed the Military trend in boots.  Years ago, Military boots were hell on your feet, a long breakin, but then after you did break them in they became an extension of your body while lasting for a very long time.  Modern combat boots they sacrafice durability for no to very little breakin and comfort like a broke in boot much more quickly.  That's the way it is with boots out here in the civilian world, we can buy either or.

In Hiking boots I always look at them as Danner type or Merrel type.  I have both but where I have one pair of Danner type boots, I have five Merrels.  Its just a matter I don't have time to breakin a really last a lifetime pair of boots anymore and as you well know boots are so application sensitive these days. Think of it as old leather breakins versus thick tennis shoes.

Cross this bridge and you'll make the right decision.  I don't see either as a wrong one for its really a matter of time on both, time to breakin versus how much time they last.

Exception, of course, is cheap boots are just a damn poor fit to begin with and will wear out before you break them in if you can stand them long enough to break them in.
