Our blackberries didn't turn out so well this year for some reason.  Not sure why, because everyone else's seemed to do better than normal.  So, we traded a bushel of tomatos, peppers, and cucumbers to some friends for about a gallon of blackberries a little while ago and froze them.  This evening as we were cooking some tomato sauce down to can, we made a blackberry grunt.  We used everything from stock/storage except the unsalted butter.  We used powdered buttermilk instead of real, and some ginger that I had previously grated and dehydrated.  We probably could've figured out a way to use either powdered butter or stored crisco in place of the unsalted butter.

Anyway, the kids loved this stuff!  I'm sure you could make it in a dutch oven easy enough, though we made it on the stove in the kitchen then baked in our gas oven.

Just thought I'd share.  If you've got blackberries and kids, give this a try!

We have not had the chance to pick wild berries in a while.

We do have an invitation to go get some figs though.

The biggest deal that has come from my kitchen lately is some pepper syrup and pepper sweet relish.

My kids do not want any, but the syrup really wakes up my breakfast.
