I don't have the key.

I'm thinking if I remove the ignitioin and just run a wire from the battery to the solenoid it should start right up when  I pull start it................right?

I hope so since I've already tarted cutting wires.

Help?

I've never personally seen a generator with a key, so I would guess it's aftermarket.

But it'll help if we get: What Generator, model number, etc...

I'm certain it can be bypassed... but more info.

What's the key hole look like? If it's a contractor-style generator, it's likely to have  a generic key.

See if the manufacturer (or a contractor) can get one for you.

If it has an electric start and you run a wire from the battery to the starter solenoid you shouldn't have to pull start it, right?

The key switch should be allowing it to run (not taking ignition to ground) and should have a momentary switch that sends voltage to the starter solenoid.

Call the company with the Serial #.

Nope. The solenoid is just for starting, you need the ignition circuit. Pictures and model info would be helpful.
