I have recently purchased a good amount of granulated Cane sugar; the brown kind.  It has a best by date of 4/2014.  If I put it in 7mil mylar with O2 absorbers how long could I expect to have it stay usable?

no O2 absorbers. just pack in clean mylar and seal. It will last longer than you

Just protect it from ants and other pests. Hard sided container in the original bags is perfectly fine. No need for mylar or O2 absorbers. Sugar and salt are probably the easiest things to store, no special precautions necessary.

This, and keep it dry.

I put sugar in the freezer for 3 weeks before storing. My understanding is the freeze will kill any bug eggs. After freeze, I just store in large plastic bins. I've had zero problems so far.

Is this brown natural and original?

Brown sugar  does not have the lifespan normal white sugar has from what I recall.

I think you can just add molassus to make brown sugar.  And molassus has a nice long life expectancy I think.

Or I might just be thinking that brown rice has a short lifespan so maybe brown sugar also has a short lifespan.

Check ingredients on bag to be sure.

I store plain crappy white sugar.  I can alter it as needed.

Grandulated "refined" sugar has an effective lifespan in centuries.

It's a simple molecule, and doesn't degrade or rot or oxidize on it's own.  It can get contaminated with odors, and it can pick up moisture, and it can be eaten.  But what it doesn't do, is degrade by itself.

Other stuff in less processed sugar is more likely to cause problems than refined sugar. But in either case, bag it up, keep the bugs away from the bag and forget about it.

If you dont touch it and bugs/pests dont get to it. +1000 years. No, I'm not joking.
You shoudlnt bother using mylar  bags and 0 absorbers for sugar. As long as its kept in a sealed container thats it. It wont go bad.

No O2 absorbers or desiccant. It will turn your sugar into a brick, which makes it very very hard to use. Store it in the bag it came in. Keep it dry, no humidity.
