I have not read it. I just found it perusing Amazon this morning.
Survival Skills: Survival Guide (How to Survive the Apocalypse) |
| Its a free Kindle book and this is the link, http://www.amazon.com/Survival-Skills-Survive-Apocalypse-ebook/dp/B00APM30DM/ref=pd_rhf_gw_s_cp_4_E30F |

I suspect any book that counts knife throwing and murder as survival skills won't amount to much in the way of good advice, but one never knows.
But I added a link to it on my blog and some commentary. http://ilbob.blogspot.com/2013/03/outdoors-oriented-free-kindle-book-3-9.html |

I'm not accusing this book specifically as I haven't read it, but prepping has been targeted lately by the internet marketing seminar guys. What I've been seeing is a lot of vague, crummy info products that are written by non-preppers/internet marketers looking to make a quick buck.
I don't have a problem with somebody who's actually a prepper making a buck (heck, I've written a book myself) but what bothers me is when somebody isn't even a part of our community and is trying to pass themselves off as an expert. Or worse: Hires a ghost writer in the Philippines to write it. |

Or worse: Hires a ghost writer in the Philippines to write it. There have been some really bad books written by preppers. Look at Dave Canterbury's book. Based on his videos it appears he does know his stuff, but his writing skills were not up to the task of writing an actual book. He needs a ghost writer. I suspect his ego will stop him from doing it. But I kind of agree that the last 6 months or so have seen a fairly unusual number of poorly done books on various subjects that preppers might be interested in. Some of them are bad because they are just poorly done writing wise, others because of the advice they give. Most seem to give both bad advice and are poorly written to boot. I may eventually get around to looking at it and posting a review. I have so many free Kindle books to chose from and reading something that at first glance turns me off is not real high on my priority list. Prepping is a big deal on eBay right now. Look at all the Chinese trinkets that have come on the market. BTW, I have tried a bunch of the $1 and $2 ferro rods from China. So far, they all work quite well. |

There was no organization at all, strictly stream of consciousness. I think he rushed to get something out to capitalize on his notoriety. |

I'll have to take another look at it, but I don't remember Cantebury's book being bad at all. Here is my two star review of it - at least the Kindle edition. http://www.amazon.com/review/RMR0JHD2A7XWB/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0084NKI70&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag= |
