I stored five 5 gallon (plastic) gas cans as well as several 2 gallon handy cans. I filled them with 93 octane and added stabil. I then stored them in a xtra large plastic tough box with holes drilled into the top for ventilation.
It is day light savings time so after 6 months of storage I ran my truck dry and started filling the tank. So far no problems next time I will use a thicker drain hose and bulb. How long will the plastic in the tanks last? The fuel lasted just fine. Next week when I refill them Ill cache them for a year. 1 tip. the metal 5 gallon tanks are awkward and hard to handle the 2 1/2 tanks are easy and many more of them can be stored in a box. |

My standard rotation is to fill my jerry cans about june (before hurricane season). I run them through my truck starting june 1st and refill. Always keep double dose of Stabil and so far have not had one hiccup running them through my Toyota Tacoma. 12 month rotation.

My fuel AAR was you need more than you think. I did not have to run my genny this time and I still had to dip into my reserve because the stations by me were running out of gas. I think I am going to up my reserve to 75-100 gallons from my normal 50 That would be an excellent opportunity to get two clean 55 gallons drums for your fuel. Fuel stays very fresh behind steel. |
