I have run into some reasonably priced MFC gas cans. I plan on getting about 4 to 6 maybe more as funds allow, and would like to mount a few in the bed of my truck. Also dont want to spend a ton of money on the holders, so I was wondering what everyone here would recommend. The only requirement is that it locks, and that it fits a 5 gal scepter.
Follow up question could I get ticketed for having non carb compliant gas cans? Second follow up are there any must have accessories, I plan on getting backup gaskets. Since they will be used for diesel the originals should be good to go, also plan on getting the bigger nozzle that scepter sells but thats it. |

You may be better off with a super siphon than a nozzle. BTDT Have you considered keeping the cans in a lockable box; tool box or job box? Out of sight stops a lot of drama. I have never had any issued with fuel cans...whenever anyone looks with a "wut" face while I am filling up I just smile and say gas for the mower. |

Quoted: Definitely will pick up a super siphon too, can hurt to have both its the arfcom way Save some money and just get 2 super siphons I have a tool box that might have room for one can but I want minimum of two max of four. I trying to shoot for under $200 to mount 4 cans and under $100 to mount 2. Look at page one of the tacked thread The Fuel Can Oracle. There is a pic or 2 posted by a fella I know of a nozzle. Fast forward to now and the fella I know just has the nozzle stashed in the shed ETA Contico makes a box that may hold 4 cans ETAA http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202300294/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=contico&storeId=10051#.UI8hIWejit8 |
| Love the idea because I already have a few tuffboxes that size just dont know how secure I could make them. I just in-vision someone walking up and ripping the box right off the bolts. I know these boxes dont break easily but I have broken my fair share of them without too much effort. I am might just go down to the local welding shop but I dont think they will be in the price range I am looking for. |

If you are looking to get a spout I highly recommend DS Tactical I ordered from them last year and really recommend them to people, good service and the price was pretty good. If you plan to use these spouts for gas you need to replace the seal inside of the spout, it is meant for Diesel so it will degrade with gas.
One thing I did purchase is a cap wrench, since the cans are sealed they swell up pretty good and I was glad to have a cap wrench. I purchased the K Wrench referenced in this forum discussion. the double handle design has its pluses and minuses, makes it easy to use two hands but I think it is a bit harder to store. Interested to see what you come up with for storage ideas.. I saw someone moved their tool box further back in the bed to give them room in the front of the bed for the gas cans turned sideways. I believe they got 4 jerry cans in sideways. You would be able to make a hinged lid to hide and lock up the cans but that would eat more room out of your bed if you don't want to always carry the cans with you. |

This is the spout that I am going to get they have them locally to me for $15. I like the idea of moving my tool box backwards and putting the can behind it, should fit 3 can turned sideways but still have the issue of needing to lock them down. |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the nozzle you link to is for diesel due to the larger diameter. It may not work with gasoline filler necks if you need it to. |

| One more question are these cans safe to store on their sides? They slide very neatly under my toolbox this way but I am just worried that they will leak. I need to figure something out soon cause I am really considering buying the rest since they are only $40 brand new. Hmmmm I love being prepared. |

You are correct the nozzle is for diesel. bigtex84 said in his OP that he will be using these cans for diesel. I missed that these were being used for Diesel.. rendering my comment about the seals and gas useless Quoted:
Mine do not leak. I put these on their side for 24 hrs to check. (Filled with gas) http://imageshack.us/a/img16/1893/laiddown.jpg You could also flip them over and store them on their sides with the cap at the top. I know you have covered this before in other threads, but the tags on the cans? You put the Date and type of octane of the fuel stored? |

(Gasoline, Diesel and Kerosene) I got the idea from another member here, so I can't take credit. I use white cloth first aid tape on the back and write the month/year when I fill them. The tags were cheaper than buying the colored straps for the cans.
I got viton gaskets for the cans I use for gas from a member here (vatopa). When I got the cans, i was only able to get the diesel nozzle for them, so I got a super siphon. However, I found that I had a couple of early CARB cans that came with these adapters:
and they fit perfect on the USGI Diesel nozzles:
With the adapter I can empty 5gal of gas into the car or truck really fast with no leaks. Tractor and generator need no adapter. |

I found one of these at a flea market. for $20 but it came with a 20 liter septer!! I machined an adapter from brass tubing to fit my gas port and hose clamped it to the end of the nozzle. It pours gas out faster than the others I bought. |

Where did you get the dog tags made? Grove I had them made at the army surplus store where I bought most of my cans. What did they cost? I don't remember. I remember the guy giving me a deal since they were quick and easy to do (easier than name, ss#, blood type, religion). |
