I was hacked. Not sure how, why or where.

The "Porn in the Apocalypse" in the Survival Forum, not me.

Any idea how to clear name and/or make it go away?

Not sure how this happened but I'm feelin pretty bad that this good site got trashed with that.

Guys, I'm sorry about this. Changing passwords and what nots immediately following this post. Just a real big apology for such bs, seemingly out of my control in a legitimate forum, or anywhere on this site.

Ask a mod to remove the post and it will be forgotten about in short order.

Run the free removal tool malwarebytes anti-malware, this is a great program for removing most every bug.

Unfortunately it may not remove some stubborn rootkits that are often used to gather information or remotely operate your computer. Such rootkits are best removed by entirely wiping (reformatting) the drive.

This.

Try microsoft security essentials, too.  Runs pretty seamlessly.  Sometimes one will pick up something the other one missed.  Make sure you update java if you have it installed.

I do log on at work, lap top in an ambulance. I can't for the life of me recall leaving myself logged in, or a single person who works there and goes on this site...

It happens sometimes I guess.  I see Waldo was the one who caught it and moved it.  I'm sure it's not the craziest thing he's locked/moved I'm sure he'll forgive you

Yep. Got pranked, not hacked...better check subscribed threads to see if your buddy had you come out of the closet in GD or something.

I never noticed that.

Just send a link to the thread to one of the mods in GD and ask them to delete it. I can't do anything with it since I moved it out of here. Terminator rules -one way.

send me an IM with your email address and i can send you instructions on how to get rid of any crap on your system .

That goes for all the SF family.

Safe mode alone will not get everything.

It's possible you were infected from a website without your knowledge.  If you happened to log on from a public computer, it may have been infected with a keylogger and got your user name and password.

I spend part of my day dealing with that.  I have almost 100 users at work and a few side customers that keep me busy, even though their pc's are pretty secure.

you weren't "hacked"

a coworker found your inadvertently logged in account and had some fun with you

used to happen all the time here at work, until a guy got all butthurt after someone sent an email from his account professing his undying love for a male coworker...

in the future, use firefox's private browsing feature or google chromes incognito mode... neither store login cookies, so once you close the browser, you're no longer logged in.

This.  All it takes is logging in and forgetting to log out, even if you close the browser, some browsers will keep you logged in.

Definitely change your sig line.

Sometimes hackers hang around places with unsecured wi-fi networks and capture logins and passwords for people using those networks. Some wifi networks are a bit "loose" in their coverage. I've sat in the parking lot outside some places and connected to their wireless network on my Ipod. I also had my Itunes account hacked at one of the local coffee places, too(either Starbucks or another local coffee place with free wifi).

Bwahahaha!  Someone got ya' good.  You should print out the thread & give it to him - some people are really looking forward to the apocalypse, it seems.

This is something to be concerned about. It all is <ahem> very easy to accomplish. Many programs send your usernames and passwords "in the clear." (no encryption) I don't think this was OP's issue, though.

Looks like something one of my "buddies" would do to me. Payback would be hell though.

I doubt you got hacked.  I find computers logged on all the time at work.  Not ARF, but eBay, Amazon, Facebook, whatever at the Hospital I work at.  One night one of the MDs left his FB account up and someone post some homosexual stuff on his wall.  Man-o-man did  he blow his top when he returned.  Folks aren't real fond of him, although I don't mind him. I never log on to personal accounts while at work.

I caught a friend of mine logged on here at work once...he subsequently professed his physical attraction and undeniable love to me in GD........yes I put a disclaimer at the very end. It was all in good fun and kept in GD for a reason. Apology accepted and hope you are able to clear it up in short order.
