Looking to build an A-Frame house at the BOL. Has any one ever built one? I’ve read that they are inexpensive to build and energy efficient.

There is some wasted space in A frame houses but they can be fairly inexpensive to build.

In some of the ski resort areas around here the A-Frames are still popular as cabins etc.
They are great at shedding snow load from the roof, but there is wasted space.
Most I have been in have a loft arrangement, with a bedroom upstairs and open over the main living area, where a woodstove is generally located.
A ceiling fan drives the heat down in the day, and a whole house fan (or convection) at night moves it into the sleeping area.
I have always loved the way they look from the outside and love the open beam and tongue and groove ceiling... but that is just me.

That build is quite incredible (at least to me).  I would love to have the time and funds to do something like that someday.

Adding even modest walls to the 1st floot makes for a lot more room however.  Note the extra room they gained with the addition where they had added modest walls.

I would love to build something like the original building as a temporary cabin/shelter and then build a bigger and better place on the same property but then again, the way they expanded the one in that thread would be a better use of finances.  It is certainly not a direction I had considered before and perhaps a way to do this without needing to take out a loan/mortgage which is important to me for a BOL.

He built it for $25,000 total his goal was to have a dry working space for $10,000. I’m going to build it as money allows. I concur short walls add a lot of space, I’m thinking of going with 3 foot tall walls.
