I think this is the way to go:
Glock 19 with night sights, Streamlight 2-15 rd mags 2-33 rd mags And, since I think a bug out pack ought to have a .22LR gun, I'd go with another G19 dedicated with the AA .22LR kit as well as a regular 9mm slide/barrel assembly stored away This way, I have two calibers, redundancy, common calibers. Thoughts? |

Stick with standard mags, more concealable and user friendly then the 33 round mags. And just add the .22 kit, no need for additional complete gun. first post and all of that. the 33 round mags are cool but in a BO they have no real practical use. replace them with two more 15 round mags and call it good. IF you find yourself in a shooting situation things have gone to complete to shit! you will want your extra mags quickly accessible (read: on your belt). if you can't get to 'em, what's the point of having them? IMHO you should have your extra mags in some kind of mag carrier, when/if the time arises that you are wanting to make movement you put the carrier on and have mags at the ready. again, IMHO there is no need for an "extra" Glock... it's a Glock. add the .22 kit, 1 mag for it and a handful of ammo. unless you're running a silencer on it the .22 would most likely be for hunting. correct? how long do you plan to be on the run? you should be looking to get some place sooner or later. no need to take well more than you will need. |
| I can agree with the two posts above with one exeption, why have a handfull of ammo when it could be loaded up at the ready in your pack. Now I dont have any negatives agaisnt the 33 rounders hell I have 3 in my pack, they are a hell of alot easier way of keeping 99 rounds at the ready then packing it loose. I do agree with having two standard backups on your belt for sure and yes your not supposed to be out shooting it out but quitely getting somewhere fast...............Keep with one pistol not two and the AA kit is a great choice......... |

Thoughts? Sounds good to me. One thing to consider if you want more than a 15 round mag but less than a 33 is to get some 17round Glock 17 mags and add the +2 base plate of the 33 rounders. I have a few of them and they have been 100% reliable. |

Not a big fan of mags extending below the grip but a 33 rounder is alot of firepower. They are one of the few Hi Hi Cap mags that are truly reliable. G19 excellent choice. It's my CCW. Even as a LEO with G21 for duty, the G19 is just about perfect. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d157/onceacop/IMG_9430.jpg Hey, is that a 33 rounder or are you just happy to see me? |
| How about the new, very short & compact 15 shot Kel-Tec 12ga for a BOB? Slugs for deer/cattle, flip a lever for instant change to birdshot. Let's face it, pistolas are for close up and personal social work during normal times, not for survival during a real-world full-fleged disaster. As for us, unless we get flooded out or nuked we plan on staying home and sipping vodka. |

When I am out of town I will often put the Sub2000 in my BOB to supplement the G19. Sometimes I keep an AR, but in a true get home situation I am betting I would be more than fine with the 9mm carbine. It fits in my Sitka Gearslinger like it was made for it.
This is of course for getting home. If I had to leave home I would be stepping it up in firepower. At that point all bets would be off and things would be getting real! |

| I will vote with the standard mag crowd. For everyday fun, 33rd mags are cool, but hopefully in a SHtF-scenario, you won't need it. For me, it would be very important not get into firefight, unless absolutely necessary, because you will probably be tired and have your family or whatever in tow, surviving will be tough enough. Also 22LR conversion kit. |

If I'm bugging out, things have really gone to shit.
First off, I'm going to base my weapons choices on what intel I have at the time. Since my crystal ball needs a new flux capacitor, I'm am completely clueless as to exactly what will be going on that forces me to leave. It could be anything. I'm not going to plan for one scenario and make all my decisions based on that. I'm going to attempt to remain as flexible as possible, and try to stay one step ahead of whatever might happen. Secondly, I have 3 possible bols. Each has a couple long guns and a couple pistols and a thousand rounds of ammo for each type. There is no need for me to try to carry a bunch of weapons with me just to have them. I'm going as light as possible. Depending on the circumstances, that could be really light, or it could be fully loaded for bear. But I'm not carrying a bunch of guns and ammo for no reason. They're way to heavy. Basic plan would involve a sidearm and a couple extra mags. And a long gun of some sort, I suspect an intermediate cartridge based carbine like 7.62x39 or 5.56 would be best choice for cqc and light weight. I have a couple sbrs just for that purpose. One of them hangs by a one point sling under one arm and is secured to my belt with a weapon cuff. It will conceal under a light jacket or even a vest. A couple extra mags for that. Probably not more than 4, as I will do my best not to engage anyone for anything. If I can run or hide, I will. I am not planning on carrying a full size rifle as I won't be engaging anyone from a distance, and I won't be hunting. The second person can carry a shotgun. It has a folding stock and is very light. Probably won't need more than 30 rounds of ammo. And a sidearm identical to mine so we can share mags if needed. If I'm going alone, I might take along an extra sidearm. It might be useful to arm someone else along the way. I haven't decided on this, and it might come down to a last minute decision. Everything else should be at one of the bols already. Two are a days walk in good conditions, the other is 3 days walk.. Either way, I'm not packing for an expedition. A few days on foot, avoiding all contact should require very little. The lighter we are, the faster and stealthier we are. Az |
