anyone have any suggestions for a simple software program to do a 400 sq ft cabin design? I use solidworks a lot so anything like that would be good. I tried google sketch up but it's not easy to precisely design using it. freeware would be best if anyone has a suggestion. thanks.

Get a scaled ruler, some graph paper, a pencil and an eraser. Your only talking about a 20'x20' square building draw it out a few times.

What kind of cabin are you looking at? You can put in a small pole barn or a prefab 20'x20' shed. All you do is put in the insulation and such.

I designed this 16x24 shed using Sketchup.
Watch the tutorial videos and play with it for 30 minutes.
It can be as accurate as you need it, just type in the size of the object.
I have mine set up to default to 1/32 accuracy.

Yeah, Sketchup is being used to design parts for 3D printing and machining, I think it's just going to take a little learning curve...which any other piece of software would require anyway.
