For the last few months, I've been seriously thinking about pursuing my EMT certification for personal knowledge.  There is also a laundry-list of other survival/self-sufficiency things I want to learn and put into practice.

Like many of us, I have a job that commands a great deal of my time.  It comes down to prioritizing because of limited time and opportunity.

Aside from shooting, what skills do *you* believe are most important?

Not knowing exactly what situation you are prepping for, would basic and advanced first aid classes do what you are looking for for less cost and effot?

I did CERT training, and I plan on getting EMT-B training even though I was a medic in the army and when discharged was pretty much a emt-b.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

One thing that has always interested me is Urbans Search and Rescue.

It an earthquke of tornado or ??? (flash flood? Volcano?)  knocks down lots of houses in my AO, how do I help get my neighbors out safely with what I have until enough help arrives from outside the area.

Skill of staying away when you want to sleep and the skill of being normal enough to be friends with your neighbors.

Aside from shooting/protective skills I would concentrate on medical knowledge/training first and mechanical repair after that for small engines, basic automotive, etc.
