Been thinking about trying to stock up on some, and did a search, but netted 0 results. Any ideas or links?

Working on getting the power bill down into the $20 zone. Last 2 bills have been $32 and $35.

Planning on going completely off grid at some point and would like to experiment with different light solutions in addition to solar.

Find the Mexican section at your local grocery store or visit a Mexican store buy the tall glass religious candles, then run about $2 and last a very long time.

or huge bulk quantity packs of tea lamps cheap (I have a huge quantity from IKEA).

Although if you are thinking off grid, you probably want to go to oil lamps (not lanterns). Either cheap new ones from Walmart, or antique or reproductions.  There is a Batman thread about that from a month ago.

Right on. money is much better spent on a couple Walmart oil lamps and kleen heat from home depot. Much more efficient with better quality of light cause the flame is so smooth.

Goodwill stores. You will pay a fraction of the price you would normally pay.

Candles are one of those "target of opportunity" things.  Realistically, they should be dirt cheap.  But they are not.

Cruise garage sales and pick up ones that have been dented or partially used for pennies on the dollar.

Though I don't have any specific use besides a couple tea-light candle lanterns I have a drawer full of them.  They make decent "don't trip over stuff" light and a little heat.  For real light, you need to use something else.

I just don't like to sleep or walk away from them (animals get into them) due to fire hazard, but do use them for various occasions.

I found Glade Christmas candles in the cleaning/smell-good section of Wal-Mart on the closeout rack.  $2 each down from who knows what, and the label says they last 22 hours.  I used one for hours a day for about a week, so I'm betting their estimate is pretty accurate.  They are scented though - hope you don't mind apple cinammon or spruce

Ok guys, I going to let you in a one of my well kept secrets.

Ready?

Go to every single, estate, and garage sale. You can buy tons of old candles for little or nothing. I have gotten BOXES of candles for free at these things by checking old closets and basements and then asking "how much"?. Good old American made candles for almost nothing.

I've been getting them at garage sales for a couple years now. I don't care if they are partally used. Usually get them for next to nothing.
I'll bet we have over 250lbs of old candles.

The tall religious candles will burn for a week straight, lit the entire time. They are designed for that.

the wicks are tiny and the hot air rising out of the glass has to pull air in, so the flame flickers terribly. I am not a fan of these type of candles.

True, but they're cheap and they don't tend to accidentally extinguish.
