The wife just picked me up a maxpedition pack. Also got the universal holster and mag pouch so I will be putting my G19 and two extra mags in that. I'm really not sure what else I should be putting in this pack. Maybe my Surefire and a small medical kit, couple packets of mountain house??? I'll be using it to get to and from work (only a 15 min commute through back roads) and other short commutes. What all do you keep in yours? And input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |
| In addition I would look at a multitool and some water purification tablets with a wide mouth bottle. I know you said the drive was only 15 minutes so it wouldn't be that long but it doesn't take up much space and the travel time could increase greatly if you had to deter due to a situation. Would be a good idea to have a fire starter in there as well, even just a simple BIC lighter. I am sure others will continue their recommendations. |

My GHB is a backpack which also serves as my everyday carry and diaper bag. Luckily i dont have to worry much about the rain gear or cold weather clothes.
Along with the baby needs i carry: Glock 17 w/Paddle holster and extra mag Surefire flashlight Gerber Axle light (works great when you need both hands) Gerber multitool 20ft of paracord 5x8 lightweight tarp (rolls up smaller than a bottle of water) First aid (including baby items) Roll of Gorilla tape lighter 6 water purification tablets Power pack for charging the cell phone snacks (trail mix, peanut butter crackers, and jerky) Wetwipes Sunblock Roll of camp toilet paper Batteries 1 Contractor trashbag Shemang (perfect baby blanket or changing pad) couple of empty ziplocks (mainly for wet baby clothes or dirty diapers) |

With that distance I would be tempted to keep it really light so you can move fast... maybe even jog much of it.
weapon ammo torch with at least two sets of spare batteries knife one day food (stuff you can eat while on the move, mountain house is tasty but you have to stop to boil water) two days water (maybe three... you can dump it if you decide you don't need it) small med kit Grundig M400 radio, cell phone emergency phone numbers and addresses. map (laminate or waterproof it and mark useful locations and distances along your route, also mark a backup route or three) two N95 particulate masks glow sticks Lighter and Firesteel lash to the pack: good shoes with smart wool socks stuffed into them, jacket (wind proof / water proof) Any chance of leaving a bicycle at your place of work? ETA: cash... have plenty of $1 and quarters for vending machines and then maybe a couple hundred dollars in $20's... or whatever amount makes most sense for you |

what does a 15 min commute equate to in miles? That is the first thing you need to consider, then assemble the items for the max time (worse case) you would have to walk.
I worked an hour from home, I calculated it would take approx 3/4 days to walk it depending on weather etc. |

Hi, Im def. not an expert but... I would put anything that you think you may need if minor SHTF i.e. somethings might be knife or two light or two small IFAK emergency stash of cash a bottled water I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will chime in Add a shemagh or bandana and this will be plenty. |
